This game crashes to desktop which is not a bug. Upon launch it tries to establish a connection via port 2101 which, if denied, will shutdown the game. I will hope that this is going to get fixed asap., else I will invoke my right for a refund and wait until it is fixed.
Hello!

Thanks for reporting this one., we'll take a look. I'll keep you posted.

Cookiie: Hello!

Thanks for getting back to me so quick that's really appreciated. I hope you will fix this.
I had the game come up with a firewall warning trying to start the game first time as well.
Hey again, we have a response from GOG:

"This seems like the User has some firewall or other security software that causes the crash. This usually happens when a game tries to check for network devices or connect to something on the internet and is blocked in a specific way. Instead of receiving a response that network devices / internet is unavailable, the firewall gives no reply, the game doesn't know what to do and crashes as a result."

Seems like "if this service fails, proceed to play the game anyways" is missing somewhere."

So these could be two things:

1) Unity Engine analytics doing the check
2) Our bug report system, taking a look, but this shouldn't be it.

For now, please launch the game allowing internet and try disabling "Allow sending of game statistics" in-game settings menu. This SHOULD disable Unity Analytics. Then try it without firewall exception again. Please test if it helps.

When I start game first time (after install and lauch of the game yesterday) then yes. You get popup for asking permission for game to get connection for internet. That is OK and I give it permission and was easily able to play the game like I should be. Have not seen any problems what so ever after that. Not yesterday, not today. All work like a charm. So my suggestion is: try to give game permission to get connection for internet. It will use it for cloud saves. So it actually benefit you (even if you delete game from your computer when you later install it again you can get your save files and continut playing).

Cloud saves are managed through GOG Galaxy if I remember correctly, so it should be separate from the game itself.

Thank you for both your reply and your suggestion! It is always appreciated.

I use neither cloud-saves nor do I wish to grant the game permission to access and transmit data to outside sources. This is a question of principality that a game should run and perform without Internet access when it is a single player game. I know that Unity is a data-kraken (telemetry), which can't easily be deactivated by developers, so at best we can opt out. That's the part I don't wish to support and my personal solution for a temporary fix is that I allow traffic from Network Zone - Loopback to Network Zone - Loopback until developers issue a patch so a blocked request still allows us to play this game.

Just to mention the fix does seem to work in this case not necessarily in any case.

So it was the Unity thing in the settings options, right (just making sure)? There's no easy solution for this, apart from the setting. But it should work without internet access theoretically if the option is disabled.

Thank you for offering a temporary solution. It does not work because both options were already disabled before first start. Immediately after noticing that the game asks for access I checked the file general_settings.json which can be found in C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\LocalLow\Owlcat Games\Pathfinder Wrath Of The Righteous and both these options were already set to false. So I am afraid that this isn't a working solution to this problem.

Both meaning Allow sending of game statistics and Allow sending of saved games were disabled.

Got it. I'll send this for a thorough investigation. Sorry for the troubles, really.

Of course I accept your apology. :) Though there is little for you to be sorry for ... you do a fantastic job helping me as you were trying to do. My only trouble is with the situation itself because that's one of the reasons why I come here to buy my games. No client, no connection, unless it's for MP when necessarily I would have to allow certain outgoing traffic.

Again, I hope the team is able to get to the core of this issue and issue a patch for it. With that said, have a nice day!

Doesn't work. Gave it permission, it crashed. Tried to load again, it crashed again, without triggering the firewall. After several attempts to get the stupid thing to get past the Paizo splash screen, I gave up.

It is not my job to do QA for a developer. I do enough of that at work. I should not have to jump through hoops to make something I paid hard earned money for work. Not when single-person devs like ConcernedApe do a vastly superior job ensuring their product actually works and can be played. It's 2021; and it wasn't remotely acceptable to release a literally unplayable game in 1977 on a Commodore PET, Apple II, or TRS80, and sure as heck isn't now. I just filed the claim for the refund, and know better than to support Owlcat in the future.
Despite the end result, the source of the problem why your computer is unable to run the game might be and most likely is different.

Please reach GOG technical support if you are encountering issues with the game.
