The latest linux patch is 1.04 -> 1.05, while the full download is now at 1.06++. Are there any plans to release the follow-up patches or would it better to download the whole game again?

It would be better to wait until they've ironed out all the bugs, or at least the major ones.

me too. It's a total disaster.
Just finished installing 1.0.7 form full download. And found there is a new 1.0.8b
No patch, just redownload.
(facepalm)
But tbh, I have not so much time to play and usually I spend it downloading new version instead of gaming and there is one PRO in this: A lot of bugs I haven't met are fixed lol.
