Minor spoilers ahead.

So, I stumbled on the scythe tree at level 6 and after a few tries, managed to take it down. Except the way I found sounded suspiciously like an exploit.

A PnP player, but not expert, my first reaction to a level drain aura was to use undead. I was quite surprised to see they weren't immune to level drain. But as they still tanked the tree and the rest of my party stayed back, protected from poison, I had my wrath thassilonian specialist pelt the thing with fire balls and scorching ray. In the end it broke through my summoned undead, but died before his aura could have time to strip one level from my team.

My question is: this "strategy" demands you to have a special kind of PC and Harrim. Ekun can help but is not critical and nobody else really matters. This doesn't sound like the right way to pass this encounter. So, before getting ward against death to cancel the level drain, what even is the right way?

I took was a wrath specialist. I moved my companions out of the way and kited it with expeditious retreat with my main character. But I could also have used delay poison and the undead character. Hopefully a death ward too.

My tactics?
Don´t let it come close. If its possible, get some resistance spells beforehand. And then release an army of creatures on him, while the others shoot him with bows (of course with fire, ice or whatever on it) and magic.

And stay out of the mist. The mist is deadly. let him come to you.
Lurk it out, then burn it with all what you have - legit tactic for 6 lvl
Did it at lv 5 on normal, and basically just tried to keep it off my alchemist long enough for bomb spam to kill it.
Had 2 surviving party members at the end so hardly a foolproof strategy, but it is doable.
