1) In the game directory, rename the file ddraw.dll to something else (I did 'ddraw xxx.dll')
2) Then in 'properties' of PG2UK220.EXE select 'Compatibility' and use the troubleshooter.
(PANZER2.EXE worked after that also, so maybe step 2 is not really necessary?)

There are several versions of Windows 10 (I run the 32-bit version, fully updated), but I would guess that for many people this procedure will work.

Hi Guys,

@ bmeerdink
It didnt work what u say, have u maybe other ideas how i can run panzer general 2 and 3d on windows 10

thx
I've also tried everything posted in these forums. Win10 x64, nvidia card.Tried renaming ddraw.dll.intel both ways, XP compat mode, nothing works. No logs or anything tell me what the error is, just crashes as soon as I try and open it.

I am totally new to win 10, this will stay like this till my current laptop dies, but got a cheap used one for my borther, with win10. For his birthday i wanted to get him PG2, so here is what i did to get it working.

1. install game,
2. try every possible setting for compatibility modes, no luck -> google acutall error message:
3. try to fix - 0xc0000022 - here is a link -https://knowledge.autodesk.com/search-result/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/The-application-was-unable-to-start-correctly-0xc0000022-Click-OK-to-close-the-application.html
4.found the acces denied on some ddl - changed permission on it - to do so, had to change ownership.
5. start game - new error message: "The ordinal 4 could not be located in the dynamic link library" see this link:
https://www.reddit.com/r/techsupport/comments/5qez3g/the_ordinal_4_could_not_be_located_in_the_dynamic/ might help you with other old games
6. do as suggested in previous link: control panel > Programs > Turn Windows Features On or Off > Legacy Components > DirectPlay and enable that
7. start game - looks better, but stops with no appareant reason - you might even loose the cursor from the display.
8. restart laptop
9. step 2 repeated
10. uninstall game
11. restart laptop
12. install game
13. start -> game working.
+1 - oh sorry, forgot it, renamed the ddraw.dll.intel to ddraw.dll somewhere around step 2

There might be some extra steps done by me, but it is working now :)

In case someone is having difficulties getting the game to start on windows 10, here is a snippet from GOG support pages (can't post links) that worked for me (I didn't get any error messages via Galaxy launcher):

---
This is quite often caused by disabled DirectPlay. In order to enable it, please follow these instructions:

- Please go to the Desktop. Press WinKey+R to open Run window, in it type:
appwiz.cpl
Here go to Turn Windows features on or off link, find the Legacy components on the list, enable DirectPlay, and click OK to install it.
---

Hope it helps.

bmeerdink: 1) In the game directory, rename the file ddraw.dll to something else (I did 'ddraw xxx.dll')

Thank you. Worked immediately after banging my head for two days.

Thanks to you I now have my all-time favourite game back! Many, many thanks :)
Sadly, although this works...

The game runs in a ridiculously small window.

I've tried the disabling full screen optimizations.

Nothing...no help running it in 640 x 480 either.

Any ideas?
I've downloaded and installed pg2, but when I run it the curser just rubs out the graphics on the interface and turns the screen black, I've tried the steps in the post but nothing helps

Tried disabling fullscreen optimizations in the compatibility tab?
Same problem with cursor drag blacks out the entire trail. Tried the various compatibility modes. No luck.
