Hi all,

I am trying to get the Ostpak to work. What I've done: install game thru gog galaxy. This goes to my D: drive (not C:). Installed ONLY the Ostpak mod (which found the D: directory). Enabled the mod using the mod enabler.

I go into the game and try a new tank - say the M26 Pershing - start the instant action and I get a sherman. I try the german side - Panther G* - I get a tiger.

Any idea what I am doing wrong? Any way to fix?

Thanks,
Rob

If the data does not match, the game engine will default to a null tank. The fact that you have both sides defaulting to the null tank says the mod install is corrupt.

Which install of Ostpak did you use? Did the install show the proper path to your install of PESE?. Is Windows using it's virtual store to trick the player into thinking PE mods are installed properly (advanced trouble shooting)?

Disable all mods and verify PESE runs correctly and shows version 1.2.

A rant by me, sorry:
The original PESE released version of the mods for PE were self installing. How to make them self installing was made known by the original developers. If the mod is in a zip file, the player must know where to properly unzip it.. All of the mods found on the bonus CD of PESE are self installing exes. Mods and there versions released by the author after 2002 may or may not be self installing. Windows Vista + is a real pain to installing if the computer user is not the administrator.

Run the game and get Version: OSTPAK 1.080F. Uninstall the mod and get Version: 1.2F.

The OSTPAK is from GOG. Yes, the install showed the proper path - verified that OSTPAK is in the MODS folder.

No idea what you mean about the virtual store - what should I check? I am using win7 64-bit.

I checked the permissions on the folder - changed it to Full Control for the user account that I am running = same problem. Make the user account an Admin = same problem, not working.

I tried running in compatibility mode for XPSP3 and 98/ME and still not working.

Not sure where to go from here.

I checked for mods and found this http://combatace.com/topic/84534-panzer-elites-new-look-pp2-x/

Sorry for the late reply.

After you have the Ostpak mod enabled, check the PE/UnitData/USunits.csv with a text editor (notepad). The top line of the file is the data name of the 3D models. You should find some Soviet tanks listed if the file is correct.

You can read another players experience with virtual store in this thread:

Slomo has been remodeling his house, so there has been little work done on PP2x this year.

Hello - thanks for the help.

Took a little gaming break, sorry for the delay.

FYI - PP2x works without a hitch. Models are very nice - recommended to anyone playing.

What's strange though is that models not affected by PP2x are the originals. Which looks out of whack with the new stuff. Any way to upgrade the mods not covered by PP2x?

Rob
The rest have not been upgraded yet. I know Murkz has been adding 3D wheels to the Ostpak models when he has spare time and Daskel is working at converting Ostpak to use a better version of the game engine and updating some of the models. There are problems with PE3 and Ostpak that prevent it being updated to the next version of the game engine. Slomo has been working on updating the units that use the M3/M5 light tank chassis, but he has been busy remodeling his house this year. ;) I think he values his wife more then PE.

The original developers could not find the source code for the dll that imports 3ds files into the object editor. It would take more time then I am willing to learn the latest 3ds format and write a new dll. If you know someone that wants to write an exporter for a 3D modeling program, have them contact me. I have the rrf file format.

In the sixteen years since Panzer Elite has been released there have been less then a dozen moders that have created new 3D models. Up until March of 2014 you had to use 3D Studio Max 3.0 to import new models that required linked objects. It is still easiest to create an entirely new model using 3D Studio Max 3.0, but the PE object editor has been updated with the ability to add already formatted objects and link them with an existing 3D model.

A list of what has been added to the PE object editor since 2013:
Same 3D rendering as the game.
Import RRF object.
Delete RRF object.
Edit bounding box size.
Mirror object.
Move object.
Move object pivot.
Move vertex.
Locate the polygon, vertex or object that uses a selected attribute.
Find which polygons use the selected area of the texture library.
Toggle the outline color that shows the selected area of the texture library.
Toggle a cross hatching of the texture libraries selected area and off
Starting coordinates of the selected area of the texture library are shown.
Selected area can be of any value between 1 x 1 and 256 x 256.
Texture count of a texture library is shown.
Highest texture ID of the texture library is shown.
Change the texture library used by the polygons without having to repaint the model. Note: It does not change the texture ID. If you want to change the assigned texture ID then you still have to repaint.

I never finished trigonometry, so I have not added rotate object. I probably should add scale object.

Creating a new model in the PE object editor is like building a kit model. You can modify existing geometry, but it is not a modeling program nor does it claim to play one on TV. If you want to create new geometry you have to us a 3D modeling program and export it as a 3ds file. You then have to import that object into the PE object editor and convert it to rrf format. You can then save the object and import it into an existing 3D model.

PE does not use texture wrapping. You must assign the desired section of the texture to each polygon.

The original Panzer Elite required that:
All texture width and height be a factor of 16 pixels.
A new texture each time you wanted a new selection width if the texture height was greater then 16 pixels.
The texture library is automatically reduced to 8 bit color and it is automatically converted up to 16 bit color in the game.
The maximum number of texture libraries is 8.

The latest version allows:
The maximum number of texture libraries is 32.
Texture selections can be of any value between 1x1 and 256x256.
Selections can use any portion of a texture.

Each texture library consists of a 256 x 4096 canvas with a maximum texture height of 256 pixels.
Sorry, I'm rambling.
