This is a big thing for me when considering which version to get, I'd like to veer towards making more GOG purchases but not if it's not going to be as well supported.

You could always ask on Steam Community about updates. I think GOG is up to date. I am using Steam Version at the moment as it was cheaper [$10] than GOG. But as soon as GOG price for the game reduces i will buy. Steam is probablmatic to me. More like renting the game than buying.

I ended up getting steam version due to a promotion, hope to get genghis expansion soon.
