I'm glad to say I saw the writing on the wall after playing the demo through 3-4 times to try the options. I'm disappointed in both Steam and GoG for offering this app for $40. Poor decisions from development right through to retail.

Personally, I consider this a big black eye on the Kalypso name, and leaves me questioning the process by which GoG/Steam choose the games to sell. I doubt anyone not attached to the game would agree it is worth $40.

I wouldn't blame steam/gog. All other digital distribution services also sells the game for the same price. I blame it on the publisher, they the one that set the price if I'm not mistaken, otherwise it's the developer, don't know much about these business stuff.

I think all those distribution services should remove the game from their catalog because for $40 seems like a scam, not because the game is bad but the lack of features and things you can do in game etc. which doesn't add up to worth $40.

To be realistic, the game should be sold no higher than $20 but I still would not recommend it to anyone even if it's on sale for $5, your time is better spent on something else.
I'd have to agree. It's not that I hate the game or anything, but $40 is bananas for this light app.

If it were ten bucks that would be different. Even then, with no AI mobsters to fight, so many features missing and pointless sand box I'd likely still pass.
Yeah I had very high hopes for this game as it just seemed to sound good but I guess I should have known better. Oh well maybe DLC will help which others have hopes for.

If anyone is thinking of buying it...Wait for a sale since the idea of 40 for this game right now is just insane.

And think about the GOG preorder was the cheapest price! other preorders (Gamersgate, etc) were easily 10$ more.
I have to echo the comments of many others - The small size of the maps, and the lack of real co-ordinated opposition from either AI or humans opponents make this game something of a let down for me. I was hoping for a large scale criminal empire simulator, but it's more like a straight remake of Gangsters: Organised Crime, only with some features missing. Maybe that'll be fixed in patches or future download, but at present it's light and fairly fun, but severly limited.

zippythezip: I pre ordered also, I thought GOG would only carry a good new game.
My fault I know, but this game leaves a sour taste in my mouth.
I could write the exact same thing.
My mistake, really, but still I can't help thinking GoG lost a few good marks in my mind because of their endorsement of that game.

Not that it is an awful game. But it's bland, quickly repetitive, lacking depth, and definitely not worth that much. That would be a good £5 game on Google Play for android, but is certainly not a good $40 pc game.

I fully agree not worth the money.... and the multiplayer... is definitely a big disappointment ...

And I have not figured it out, what does the use of the sandbox, someone help me?? please...
low rated
Sandbox right now is simply garbage, without any challenge whatsoever even on Hard.

However there is some light at the end of the tunnel:
http://forum.kalypsomedia.com/showthread.php?tid=18261

In 1-2 months the above update should hopefully be finished and that should improve Sandbox greatly, I should hope.

Right now I would try to avoid Sandbox. Because right now that's all it is, a box of sand to sit and play in.
(As opposed to other Sandboxes like the one on Tropico 4.)

Why is the above post low rated?
You should get Gangsters instead of this!

Perhaps an employee of Haemimont Games/Kalypso Media Digital?
Tomorrow should be the last day of ETA for the promised big patch which should finish the game...
The big patch should be very soon in beta test on Steam, says Kalypso.

New features:

- New maps for multiplayer and sandbox modes
- Enemy gang for sandbox mode, operating independently and taking over businesses - can both attack the player and be attacked by the player
- Customizable game settings and goals for sandbox games
- Economy overview panel for current businesses with their efficiency, profit, ect.
- Visual representation of individual business types on the strategic map via icons
- Additional difficulty setting and "Iron Man" option (saving progress in strategic mode disabled)
- Massive overhaul of cover mechanics in turn-based combat
- Introduction of multiplayer chat and several other minor fixes/changes
It even may be possible to drive a car.
