Hi,

what do you think about the game?

Here my thoughts (Pros +, Neutrals <> & Cons -):

+ Kalypso made the Tropico series and has experience in building and ruling games
+ Kalypso made XCOM Enemy Unknown, so they have a bit experience in turnbased combat
+ The Mafia theme. I like Mafia games.
+ Multilanguage Release
+ The turn-based tactical combat reminds me of Jagged Alliance 1 + 2, one of my favorite games
+ Cheapest price on GOG
+ DRM-Free

<> Why did they accept to release that game DRM-Free so early?
<> The graphics look like the graphics from Tropico 3 & 4. Is it the same Engine? It still looks good.

- Only 2.2 GB to download? XCom has about 12.8 GB. Is there not so much content?
- The game came out of nowhere. Why is there so less information about the game (for example only 2 trailers)?
- Kalypso also made bad games like Airline Tycoon 2

Kalypso did not make XCOM, Firaxis did.
Kalypso is only Publisher, developer is Haemimont games.

You're right.
Now I saw Haemimont made Tropico 3.

Well deciding to do DRM-free at release instead of later is a good thing, and I doubt they would make the decision simply because it's a bad game. Hence I see that as a positive.

Xcom for what it was, was simply huge. Very little effort was made it seems to shrink the size of the game-files down. Then again very few developers bother trying to limit their game-files these days. Most of any games size is of course textures, and for the most part the ones here look simple, which would be easy to shrink. Add to that if they have any procedurally generated content that would lower the size even more.

Then again the game could also be tiny and crap. ;)

Yes the game did come out of nowhere. But then again I notice a lot of games published by Kalypso do. They spend little on advertising except for Tropico I notice.
I'm cautiously optimistic because on the one hand, I really liked Tropico 4 and this is a genre that (for whatever reason) never seemed to get many good games. Gangsters: Organized Crime is the best one I can think of, and even that had some pretty annoying elements that could've been axed or made more transparent.

On the other hand, Rock Paper Shotgun didn't seem too enthused when they got their hands on the pre-release stuff. I'll wait to see some footage and reviews from elsewhere before I take the plunge.
I hope that this game will be good - good setting, Turn Based Strategy, can be fun, but there is Ku Klux Klan (I saw in the trailers) and there can be heaps of bugs in it... Anyway I will pre-order it soon and I will do my best to enjoy it. I had fun with Inquisitor but at some stage I gave up. I hope that I will push myself to finish this one (just as I did with Jagged Alliance Back in Action).

I watched the trailers again and it seems that they used tha same Engine for Omerta like Tropico 3.
This could explain the relatively low amount of data. Tropico 3 hasn't a lot of data too, without all these addons, but it is still a good game. I hope the best.
Just posted this in the general forum, but I don't think anyone has posted it here yet: The Gamer Hub has some singleplayer videos of the beta(?) on Youtube. The guy playing is not the sharpest knife, but he does a decent job. The game seems interesting, I think I'll take the plunge.

Is the price an error?
33.99 USD? Shouldn't it 3.99 USD?
Sorry, 33.99 is far above my limit ...
Thompsons, I too thought of Gangsters: Organized Crime when I saw the screenshots and hit mentioned turn-based play. I liked that game, but it did not live up to its potential and was frustrating at time (like giving two orders a week, but then you would want to change the second order based on things that happened earlier in the week).

I hope this does not have the same issues. I will wait and see, ready to purchase if I hear good things.

The Ku Klux Klan is in there for historical reasons.

That organization was one of the proponents of the nationwide Prohibition during the 1920s hence the reason they are in the game. On top of that, the early 20th century was a time when they were at their strongest and if you're going to have a game based on historic events, such as the Prohibition, you need to have all the setting's villains, like the KKK.

At least you can hire a an African-American mobster and have him hunt down KKK members for great justice :D.

Thanks for finding time to reply and thanks for clarification, JudasIscariot!! Now I have to pre-order, because when Gog Team member says that the game is good it means it's good!! And thanks once again for making my life easier - I wanted to buy this game on Steam, but DRM and all those silly achievements (which I try to fulfill anyway...) makes my angry sometimes...

I grew up in southern New Jersey (that's why I'm interested in this game) and I never heard any stories about the KKK operating anywhere in New Jersey. The mob was the main thing in Jersey even long after the 20's. I just talked to my dad who is now 90 years old (born in '22) and he said he never heard anything about the KKK in Jersey. Granted, there were a lot of racial bigots even when I was growing up but nothing organized as far as we know.

I'm not saying that they couldn't have been there. It's just surprising we never heard about it.

It could be something to do with historical liberties taken by the devs and my woefully incomplete knowledge concerning the Prohibition. I do recall that it wasn't nationwide at first until Jan. 17, 1920.

The only reason I mentioned the KKK at all was due to this propaganda poster: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/47/Defender18thkkk.jpg.
