Hi, as title say, I downloaded for free Abe's Odyssee but I have problems with initial video: it's not fluid, it goes in slow motion and leaps. What could I do? I played it on PS and I remember there are a lot of videos during the game, so this will affect my experience in game. Thanks and sorry if this is a repost.
I have the same problem,game runs great but cutscenes aren't fluid. A lot of people experiencing this as i've seen in other forums but it looks like there isn't a standard solution for this.Hope someone helps!
I found someone's fix on the Steam forums, and figured I'd share it here.

1. Create a file called aqrit.cfg in your Abe's Oddysee folder, and put these settings in it:

;;; www.bitpatch.com ;;;

RealDDrawPath = AUTO
BltMirror = 0
BltNoTearing = 1
ColorFix = 0
DisableHighDpiScaling = 0
FakeVsync = 1
FakeVsyncInterval = 14
ForceBltNoTearing = 0
ForceDirectDrawEmulation = 1
NoVideoMemory = 0
SingleProcAffinity = 1
ShowFPS = 0

2. Download the DirectDraw wrapper from (grrrr, won't let me post links, for some reason: "bitpatch dot com slash ddwrapper dot html".

3. Extract ddraw.dll into the same location as aqrit.cfg

Many thanks for help, i had same issue.
Only one technical comment, it works only if you have DOS-Frendly folder name (D:\AbesOddysee in my case).

I understand your irritation. I've been there myself. You have to have 7 or more reputation in order to post links. You can read up the details in the FAQ. Why the forum doesn't tell you about this is beyond me...

Either way: Thank you for sharing your solution.

I didn't find that to be an issue on my system. My folder structure includes spaces and an apostrophe.

To khedroros: Thank you for posting the fix!
Another fix I found is ddhack.

It simultaneously stretches the game to fill the screen and fixes the laggy intro videos.

Unfortunately, it also causes the game to crash AFTER exit, but that doesn't really hinder gameplay.

YMMV, but because this scales the screen appropriately, this is the fix I'm sticking with for now. If anyone has a better option, I'd love to hear it.

Because I can't post links (ugh) just do a web search for the following. For me, it's the first result in both Google and DuckDuckGo:

Sorry =( I know that it worked for me on a Win 10 laptop with an older Intel graphics chip, but that it's probably a little picky about how it's installed.

My copy of the game is in "C:\GOG Games\Abes Oddysee", so it shouldn't care about spaces or long filenames. The config file needs to be AQRIT.CFG (in lower-case, q and g look similar in my current font; including upper-case spelling in case that's the issue ;-) )

I suspect that the exact OS version and video hardware might matter, and maybe some combinations don't work. With patches like this, you're basically relying on the programmer's knowledge of DirectX and DirectDraw, differences between legacy versions of those and current versions, and knowledge of how different drivers will handle things).

I remember seeing the Oddworld games around a lot when I was a kid, and it's been cool to finally have a chance to try them out (my parents didn't like how Abe looked, and maybe had the wrong idea of what the game would be like). Anyhow, I hope that you can continue messing around with it, and get it working. Getting old games to work is sometimes a matter of a bit of black magic, seems like.

Thank you. I've been buying from GOG for years, just haven't spent any time on the forums (never really needed to before now, actually).
