When I boot Abe's Oddysee in Windows 7, the game crashes almost instantly. First it displays the disclaimers, then the first second of sound from the first logo loops for a few seconds. After that, the screen goes completely black, and the entire thing crashes. I can't tab out or use task manager or anything, my only option is to do a hard reboot. The game actually boots okay when I use DxWnd on it, but I'd really like to be able to play the game in fullscreen. Does anyone know what's going on?

I've encountered the same problem and so far haven't been able to find a solution. Anyone have any ideas?
I've this problem on win7 64 bit, but 32bit goes very well
I have the same problem on my laptop :/
Same problem, unfortunately DxWnd isn't helping either, so was a waste of money apparently. Or maybe GOG will some time fix their problems with Win7...
Hey guys,

I had the same issue tonight when I tried to launch the game after installation, the credits came up then the screen went black and I had to power off the laptop manually. I went to check Steam for the games as Steam can be slightly more reliable sometimes, and I found a link to a possible solution.

I can't seem to post the link here, but if you go onto Steam, Community and type in 'Abe's Oddysee' the topmost post should contain a link to the PC Gaming wiki which will then give you a link for the file you need to download. The actual file is called 'ddhack_abe' and should contain 'ddhack.cfg' and 'ddraw.dll' along with a readme for instructions.

I downloaded the file from the aforementioned link (safe I promise), copied the two files (.cfg and .dll) into the Abe's Oddysee folder and launched the game. The game opened perfectly, ran fine, the only thing I will mention that was a problem was when I tried to exit, the error message 'Oddworld has stopped working' pops up and everything seems to crash, but if you Ctrl+Alt+Del and open task manager you can just quit the game through that. It may be a little annoyance but I reckon it's better than not being able to run the game at all right?

Anyway, I hope this helps anyone else having the same problem as me!

Thank you! Now the game is working on Win7 64, Boot Camp, OS X Snow Leopard. =)
