TheDogCatcher: This didn't work for me, I built a base computer and when I went to start placing structures I had nothing available, it looks as though I've lost my whole base, I didn't back my saves up either.

grzlhmpf: you need to "claim" one of the old preexisting bases, the new base building does not give you the resources back (but they stay in archive). Sorry i wasn't more specifc.
So now I've spent hours flying around a single planet searching for one of the old style base buildings without any luck, this is driving me mad, there doesn't seem to be any way to easily locate them anymore.

This is so frustrating, all want is my old base back, why do they have to make such a reletively simple thing so damned annoying ?

The new 1.51 hot fix (or the 'experimental' patch - seems they are the same) has added a new quest for reclaiming the old base. However, as with most things with Hello Games, it's bugged and it only exists as a typo in the quest list at the moment... ...well, it's at least a small step forward.. ..I just hope we won't have to wait for it another 2 years - y'know, the 'NEXT' is actually what was promised from the original game... ...so, I don't know why is everyone prising HG now - this was supposed to be in the game from the start, 'finally, what took you so long' should be more appropriate.
If I may pop in on this, I too was playing from before - and logged in to find I had no Base (says it is Archived, which is nice) - but that I cannot 'find' a NEW place to put a Base.

There is a Mission to 'find a suitable location'; but the HUD display for it flip-flops very, very fast between phrases and makes a constant 'buzzing' noise... It seems 'broken'.

I am flying around "looking for a suitable location" but afterlanding on 3 different planets of different biomes, there are none?

Is it meant for us to just start over?

Thanks for any ideas

The quest is part of the new 1.51 hot-fix but it's still broken. It does the same thing in my case (fast flickering and nothing else). I hope they'll fix it with the next patch. Until then I won't be playing.

Ah, thank you very much for your input - if it's 'bugged' at the moment I'll just wait for a Patch or two then - I suppose I should be grateful that they are doing so much on this game (and Supporting old Bases at all) literally years later...

The new experimental patch (FRIEVEBUILD2707) has fixed it. We can have our bases back. It works (at least in my case it did). Yeah, it's good that they still work on the game but as I have stated earlier - most of this was supposed to be in the original game... ...so, yeah, finally I can say 'good job'. Better later than never I guess.
Well I've not given up yet :).

I still haven't found an abadoned base to claim my base back :(.

Just to much invested not to keep trying, I like some of the changes :)
I finally got my base back, the mission to get your base back works in the experimental patch available through GOG galaxy.

now I can't get a blueprint scanner, so I'm waiting for yet another patch to fix that.
Alright got my base back, now my colossus is almost full of technology modules, I had a lot of tech I lost and it was really hurting my ability to do much with it taking up so much inventory (which is why I needed my base).

Sadly my base is on a planet that is very hard to survive on now :). and apparently you have no floors and you have to build the teleporter, but I'm glad I got it back.

I don't have the blueprint scanner either and I need it too....
I can't seem to find the base restoration mission. I've tried just searching for abbondonned habitats but read you need the mission to be active for it to work. Is this ture?
NEXT was such a huge update, with so many fundamental changes, if you did not start over fresh you were always going to have problems imho.

Sure they have been trying to avoid that, but really you can't, just too much has changed.
