With the update to Next I lost my base, most of the installed tech in my suit and my weapon has disappeared, lots of hours wasted it seems :(.

For a casual player like me this is a pretty big blow :(

Haven't downloaded the game yet (I'll wait a bit for the launch bugs to be ironed out). There was a tweet yesterday (by HG) saying the bases where archived though and should be retrievable at a base building console.

There's a patch in the works. See the notes at https://steamcommunity.com/app/275850/discussions/0/1762481957306321951/

Probably the best current advice is to backup your saved games directory before installing NEXT.

Play around in the new world to get some practice with it.

When the patch to 1.5 drops, install it and then restore your 1.38 saves before launching the patch. You'll be starting over but more of your previous equipment & stuff will be available (e.g., freighter bases).
ships and bases are archived.

Ships: summon them to "recreate" them.

Bases: when you build a new base to get all the materials back like in earlier versions. There was/is no way to keep them when a new universe is created but getting the reosurces back is fair IMHO.

Tech is now obsolete since so much has changed.

Money is still there ;)

Will there even be a patch for GOG? It seems just as likely that this type of patch might fall into the "expect it to be released later this year" and "remains in the pipeline." This is hardly a commitment for support, more of a vague comment of the nature "it's on our to-do list."

Thank you dashiichi! That was most helpful giving me an idea of what to expect from the migration or rather what's not working right now. Losing S ship appearance would be one of the bummers for me.

Base is less an issue to me since it is still on a planet in 1.38 that had been ruined environmentally by the 1.3x updates so I wanted to move off anyway.

The Atlas storyline and secret space station terminal are also things I'd be afraid to lose as well as my freighter and ship collection. I'd also be interested if all resources were invalidated as well or just the tech.

My overabundance of Nanites I couldn't find any newer tech for in 1.38 would be very helpful to re-settle in 1.5 - are they converted somehow/usable or are they just converted to credits as well?

Thanks and regards,
Markus

Yes, there will be a patch for GoG. Yes, it will probably not be available within minutes of its appearance on Steam. The delay will probably be on the order of a few hours because reasons. Yes, there will be howls of outrage and people throwing fits on the floor if the patch (and subsequent patches, as is likely) aren't available within microseconds of Steam.

All of the Atlas Rises patches appeared on GoG in a timely manner. I see no reason to expect otherwise for NEXT.

This didn't work for me, I built a base computer and when I went to start placing structures I had nothing available, it looks as though I've lost my whole base, I didn't back my saves up either.

this would have been a nice update if it wasn't for that, maybe I did something wrong but without any official documentation it's impossible to tell.

I can't really be bothered to start all over again, I'm quite disapointed.

I'm still finishing up on 1.38 (almost done!) but from what I understand from the NMS subreddit, in order to get your base material back you need to claim an "abandoned" base (one pre-existing on the planet) rather than use the base computer to instantiate a new style base. Apparently the old style base structures still exist; conflicting information on how to find them.

Ah ok thanks for that, I've seen a thread on the steam forums that backs up what you say.

So I suppose I've just got to find an abandoned base now, that's a bit of a relief. :)

I've given up (temporarily) trying to follow the Steam forums. As I write this every posting on the front page is listed as having been last updated "just now." ¡Ay, caramba!
Urgh, almost all upgrades are gone from the suit, the ship and the tool.
They even defaced my ship with a cracked and pealing paint job and dirt.

I had managed to muster a little curiousity, but as usual Hello wants people to restart and re-grind.
Just not worth it.

From the patch notes it looks like they're making an honest effort to enable "thru players" to be able to recover much of their previous stuff. Units (cash) in particular, plus allowing changed tech to be credited towards the new stuff.

It is hard to see how they can simultaneously change the game to make it better (for some definition of "better") and at the same time allow earlier saves to be incorporated seamlessly.

I did start off with a new save and I gotta admit, the early parts of the game are uniquely fun. I still have an unoped save from 1.38 that has 4 billion units, thousands of nanites, a couple of farms, a freighter with six ships, and enough weapons and shielding that I fear no Sentinel nor pirate. I'll keep the zip file but I'll probably never use it.

New stuff to learn, new things to do. The journey is the destination.

I definitely do not want to start an argument amongst ourselves and maybe I missed this patch but I do not recall ever seeing that 1.38 was ever fully updated for GOG purchasers despite a commitment made at the time of Atlas Rising release on GOG that the Joint Exploration feature would eventually be released.

I am not convinced that all of the Atlas Rising patches came out to GOG users in a timely manner. I think that at least some of the earliest ones still were released sometime during the next business day although things did improve by the time that 1.38 was released albeit while still waiting for the release of Joint Exploration that would have brought the GOG version back up to the same features available on the two other platforms of the time.

you need to "claim" one of the old preexisting bases, the new base building does not give you the resources back (but they stay in archive). Sorry i wasn't more specifc.
