There are definitely questions in the air.

However, the game description still reads:

"The game is scheduled to be released on June 21st in North America, June 22nd in Europe and Australia, and June 24th in the UK and Rest of World."
Still just rumors, but the amount is increasing (or just recycling).

So far nothing official has been said, so maybe that's why it still shows the 21st as the release date. Would be weird to give Gamestop a heads up before every other distributor though.
PC Gamer just posted an article stating that the PS4 version has now switched the release date to the 9th of August.

Oh well, it's just a couple of weeks more.

The way Sean Murray writes about the delay...well...the PC Version will also get postponed :/

Bummer. But I would rather a game be delayed to fix issues then do a release and patch approach to development. So while disappointed in the fact that we have to wait a bit longer I applaud Hello games for having the courage to delay things to fix issues that need fixing.
Darn it! My summer vacation plans have been shattered. :(

Well, since he actually announces it on the playstation blog, and he specifically mentions final playtesting and q&a as reasons, I'd go with an about 99% certainty that it's at the "request" of their major sponsor, partner and indirect publisher on consoles, namely Sony. This would also explain why distributors got wind of the release date change so early, that it actually was leaked from Sony.

So while I'm /sure/ they won't do anything crazy - you might not want to be too surprised if it turns out the game was delayed to insert a Kart mode. Or that the game will have autopilots and auto-aim for every single action. And that elements that would upset creationists have been removed. While all and any advanced features on terrain deformation and faction AI, fleet systems, and so on, have been removed from the final release to avoid console issues. That somehow should be fixed just in time for the first DLC.

Oh, and did I mention that there will be a sniper-rifle and twitch controls for the ground movement, so you can strafe back and forth and snipe antelopes across the planet with auto-aim? Afterwards, if feedback is less than stellar for the changes, then it's of course the developer's fault for making an initially "flawed game".

Trust me on this one - you do not want anything to be delayed because of Sony Q&A.

Couple equals 2 weeks.
August 9 minus June 21 equals 6 weeks.

...meanwhile: congratulations to Sony for robbing Hello Games of a fantabulastic opportunity to make E3 irrelevant and uninteresting. While also making sure that the belated launch is actually targeted at platform owners who have not yet bought the VR and half-next generation hardware to run the game on yet. And who will not buy that in another 6 months, if at all..

And in doing so, Sony combined in one fell stroke all possible approaches to sabotage a developer. in a way that Sony has, at long last, become complete masters of.

Hello Games: Ditch Sony. Ditch them now. Just do it. Break the contract. Or your studio will be a sideshow for making a 10 second trailer worth of 3 years of development, that then will be treated like Prince's endless documentary films: only to ever be seen internally and scoffed at for not instantly being the materialization of Heaven - before it's filed in a safe so no one will ever actually see it again. Get away for your own sake now.

Creationist, huh? HahahahHAHHhhahahaha... yeah, 'cause creationists don't play sci fi games... sigh... Let me guess, you're one of those anti corporate anti capitalist anti religious pro globalist pro open border pro everything that doesn't have a value forum activist... let me tell you, delicate flower, I'd rather them delay for whatever reason and get a solid product than them release it early and have to listen to your oh so typical forum mainstream rants to the effect of 'multiple choice complaints about developer not finishing product and how dare they since I paid for it'.

Hush your yap and wait in line with the rest of us.

...and while I'm at it, RULE BRITANNIA!
