Got few friends into NMS; but they are on Steam; so I was wondering if I can actually play with them with my GOG version.
The new update is coming soon, so I would expect that either the multiplayer will improve, and maybe crossplay between GOG and Steam client will work just fine, or we will see a dejavu of last update, where GOG got multiplayer update after months from the release on Steam.

Considering the game is on sale on Steam, I don't mind spend 30 dollars for it; considering that I have got all the updates for free; although I want to continue to play on GOG, not on Steam, so I hope there is a way to avoid to spend 30 bucks for the same game, just to play with my friends online

AFAIK no, you can't join Steam MP players with the GOG version, but wait for the new Beyond version to be released, the new 'NMS Online' feature could change things totally.

That's what I was curious about; I could wait, but the 50% off the price on the game is expiring soon, so I was hoping to have a clear idea about cross play before it goes back to full price

AFAIK nope. No clear ideas. They just release the basic info that the Beyond update will have:

1. something online
2. something VR
3. something else

I assume details on any of the 3 bullet points will still take 1-2 months.
I hope that after updating BEYOND will be able to play with Steam friends.

Same here. Would be much more fun.
Hello Games has stated that "At This Time" there will NOT be the ability to play across different platforms, so apparently the answer to this is NO.... They did however say that may change in the future...

Which means no - the only people you will be able to play with will be GOG players - which for me is NOT a problem...

Tried playing with a steam friend today, no luck for me. Seems like they are piggybacking their networking to the friends list of the provided platform (Steam is only steam and gog is only gog afaik). Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I too was hoping to get something like this out of the beyond update.

My hope currently is that it changes and they actually do multiplayer or Gog Galaxy 2.0 Steam integration will fix this issue in the future.

I think that they will add this feature, if our pressure will be powerful.
