Title says it all.
Back when NMS Next was released in July, they waited 9 hours after releasing the update to Xbox, Playstation and Steam to finally release the update to GOG players and only then telling us we would not be getting multiplayer with the rest of the world. But fear not they said... They would be working on it and we would be getting multiplayer by the end of the year.

Well, it's December 3rd and we have not heard anything from Hello Games about progress let alone a release date for Multiplayer for GOG players.

Request it on zendesk and keep doing that. I'm afraid that's the only way to get noticed

Yes, send in polite requests to HG for GOG MP. Even if you aren't interested in MP, please send in a feature request. That's how we can help everyone who does want it.
Yes, and Hello Games has never lied to us before. I mean, the year's not over yet, so I expect to see the update drop at exactly 11:59 PM on New Years Eve.

I think "lied" is not exactly the right word. I think the phrase "over promised" is more accurate. It's usually a bad idea to make promises unless things are VERY solid.

My guess is the "problem" is more difficult than anticipated, and/or, not as significant an issue to HG than the overall market and the value of getting the major updates out (NEXT, ABYSS, etc).

Limited resources are available, so the bigger market gets most (all?) of the attention. I'd be interested in knowing how many copies of NMS were sold on GOG vs Steam. I'll wager it's distinctly lopsided toward Steam.

I never really expected Hello Games to deliver on their promise by the end of the year. But it would be nice to get some sort of progress report.
You are probably right in your assessment though. It might be we never get this addressed.

I just refuse to buy the steam version and give up all the progress I've already made in the game and start over.

If somebody promises to do something, only for that something to not at all be like the thing that was promised, it's a lie. Plain and simple.

If somebody says "I'll buy you a car for your 16th birthday" and they don't, it's a lie. If they said "I'll buy you a car with a sunroof and heated seats" and they only buy you a cheap Toyota, it's still a lie, despite them buying you the car.

If Hello Games wanted to avoid lying to its community again, they should have taken the economics into consideration when making public promises or commitments. If something unexpected happened making it so they were unable to see through to their promises, a simple public "oops, we goofed" would suffice. Limited communication is better than zero communication.

I see your point. However, my interpretation of a lie has to do with intent. I think HG fully intended to bring the feature to the GOG platform when making the original statement. You're absolutely correct in saying they should have certainly known better than to make promises they weren't fully prepared to deliver upon. Especially in light of ALL the drama surrounding NMS in the first place!

It's really just splitting hairs, at this point. The end result is the same, no promised MP feature and no comments on if/when it may arrive. They did the exact same thing with the release of NEXT, in regard to the GOG platform.
Since they said they'd have MP by the end of the year, and there are still (as of this writing) 25 days left, I think it's too soon to start calling them 'liars'. I'll wait to see what happens by the end of the month before calling them out. Just because we're not getting any updates or info doesn't mean they're not actually working on it.
The lack of news doesn't exactly fill me with much hope for it.

The only news I've heard out of them recently is that they have a new game coming.

While I've been amazed that they've put as much extra effort into No Man's Sky as they have, despite or perhaps because of the well-deserved criticisms if not other pressures, I'm not sure I should be holding out a lot of hope for this.

I'd at least like to know what's going on, at this point. With an effort to bring to us what others have already gotten on other platforms.

Incorrect.

https://www.gog.com/news/no_mans_sky_next_update_now_live

"However the multiplayer component will not be ready at launch; we expect it to be released later this year as full multiplayer parity remains in the pipeline."

A statement saying they expect something to happen by a certain time is unfortunately not a promise that it will happen by that time.

Yes, a carefully crafted statement by HG. Only time will tell... And I wonder if the announcement of the new game signals an end to active NMS development and Community Events. It would have been smarter to make one more decent update for Xmas and a big community event to get the last hurrah in sales for the season. We'll see what happens. As-is, NMS is better than it was when I bought it in August 2017.

I don't think it does. From what I've read, there were only 2 members of the HG team that worked/are working on the new game.

From hello games website:
We are the creators of the multi-award winning Joe Danger games, the huge and evolving No Man’s Sky and a recently announced side project The Last Campfire and when we’re not doing that, we’re probably working on something new.

Well, Sean Murray specifically states in This Tweet that it was two people: Steven and Chris.
