It can be very dangerous to start getting cocky...

Found a very high toxicity planet, explored a bit then saw a crashed ship. It was better than what I had. I wanted it.

Problem was, my suit couldn`t really handle too much of this toxicity. I`d need to repair this ship and not end up stuck on this planet. However, there was a huge Heridium column that made me confident I`d find everything else I needed.

Well 2 hours later, I`m still looking for more Heridium. I used up the first column fixing the shields. I would`ve fixed the thrusters first, but since the ship was part underground I reckoned some shielding would protect it from damage on start-up and was more imprtant to fix first than the thrusters - It was a judgement call.

I only need 22 Heridium to get me taking off, but can I find it? Heck no.

Add to that the really frequent toxic storms and nights and it`s quite a nightmare. Several times I`ve been caught out in the open searching and ran out of zinc for my suit. Only a cave I found saved me. I had to sit in it OVERNIGHT which was quite a long time game wise, I dunno, felt like an hour, but was probably about 15 minutes. Those caves saved me.

Made it back to the ship just in time for another ruddy toxic storm... Saved game.

I think I may have been a bit too cocky....

I wonder if I can re-use my old ship? It`s still there.
That's always an invigorating feeling, not knowing how or when you may be able to leave. Feeling stuck until you explore farther and farther away until you find something that helps you out.

I'm exploring an awesome planet now, and I don't want to leave. Gold is everywhere, and tons of other things to help me get rich and expand my inventory space. But I want to move on to the next system...

True, while I might look like I`m whining, I`m really enjoying this real attempt at survival and getting the ship. It`s the trials like this that make you rememeber games like this 10 years later. :)

Why on Earth would you not fix your only mode of transportation's engines first?

If you can save enough to get out of the atmosphere you can at least mine a ton of Thruster fuel from the asteroids

The ship was partly underground, as I explained, and I was worried it would take too much damage getting it up to destroy it, along with me. I didn`t want to risk it. As I said, a judgement call.

I'm in the exact same situation as you right now.

Also to Socratatus:

I think if you use your grenades, you can tunnel into the ground anywhere and make your own cave. I know I make tunnels all the time to go from cave to cave mining gold.

Yeah I did it unknowingly, I was just trying to get up this big hill, blasting away and heard "Temperature Moderating" or whatever it says. I realized I had dug a cave. Never thought about digging a cave for my self. Good idea. There have times I thought I was trapped. Thinking "what did i get myself into I am not going to make it, I'll be stuck." I also saw a ship on a harsh world and was really thinking about it. I know you can't get your old ship back. I saw my first one sitting there for a long time, and finally went up to it. I couldn't interact with it, no one owned it, it just sat there. So I decided to leave the ship. The world was to unforgiving, and the ship needed a lot of repairs. I wasn't sure I could make it.

Yes, you can reclaim your ship old ship. However, it doesn't seem abandoned ships persist in the save file. If you save the game and exit, I don't think it will be there when you log back in. At least, the times I've exited the game in a new ship sitting next to an old one I, the old one was gone when re-starting the game.

You are quite right. I rested for the night to consider my options. Tried to find my old ship and it was gone, great, I`m going to have to remember that little annoyance for the future.

However, something strange happened. An exact duplicate of the ship I was trying to repair now stood on almost the exact spot of the ship I was trying to fix. I was confused, but then realised it was a lucky break (or bug!). So I stopped asking questions and moved everything into this new ship and fixed the PULSE engines first, then the thrusters and voila, I was able to take off and land at a nearby outpost to get the rest of the Heridium.

A bug most likely, but it saved my arse!

How do you reclaim old ships, just for future reference?
I needed protection from the weather once (that was like 2 hours in the game) and what I did was mine a hole inside a heridium column and get inside it with my jetpack. At that moment I knew I was going to like this game.

Only just discovered it myself when Cyion mentioned it. Tried it out with a grenade- It works. Impressive.

Thanks, Cyion. You get a tick mark to your rep!

This game really is full of wonderful moments, but the experience is marred by the constant bugs and stability issues. A shame...

I don`t think you can.

If you don't buy a new one, and instead find a crashed one and take over it, you can go reclaim your old. I did it once just to see if I could.
