Don´t these 2 statements in the information contradict each other??

DRM FREE. No activation or online connection required to play.

And then there is this one somewhere else ...

Please note: The GOG Galaxy Client is required to access online features for No Man's Sky.

And the latter one is kinda hidden at the bottom small letters in the requirements section.

Well, it's DRM free in that you can install it on your laptop PC or at the office without needing to get a registration key. And you can play it on all of the machines in single-player mode without Galaxy or a network connection; you just won't see discoveries or community events, etc.

Technically yes you are correct, you do not need an online connection to play part of the game but you do for full features. What bugs me about this is the wording and when it is mentioned somewhere else that you actually need online connection to use all the features in the game.

You don't need an online connection to play the game.
You do need an online connection to access the on-line features, none of which are required to play the game.

Splitting hairs like this is like complaining you need an on-line connection to play on-line multiplayer for games that offer both that and single player.

Not completely, there is a multiplayer option that does not need any online connection.
My main complaint is that it is not mentioned better, when you do need to log in to use the full game, it is like they are trying to hide it.

You need online connectivity to play the online features of the game but you don't have to, you can play offline if you want. This has nothing to do with DRM. NMS is DRM-free on GOG as promised.

As I said, it has to do with the text. DRM FREE. No activation or online connection required to play. , you do need an online connection if you wan´t to play the full game.

Why not go DRM FREE. No activation, GOG Galaxy Client is required to access online features.

Your argument is ridiculous and completely childish. Anyone with an ounce of computer knowledge knows in order to play multiplayer you need an internet connection. If you don't want to log on you have that option.

The game is completely playable offline minus seeing other players' discoveries or eventually experiencing multiplayer. When that feature becomes available.
I'll point out that at the time this game launched(when the DRM Free text was written) Multiplayer was not even a promised feature. So the only thing you are missing in offline play is seeing other people's discoveries. I think you'll live.

Either play the game or don't. If you decide to play you have two options:

A- play the game using the GOG Galaxy client and play with the online features.

B- Download the manual install files, install the game and play completely offline without the online features.

It's a simple decision. Stop trying to make it complicated.
@halldojo,
A DRM system (e.g. like Steam) makes sure that you need to be online and logged-in on a special account to play a game AT ALL. Nothing like that is in the GOG version of this game (or other games in GOG).
Then it's obvious that if you want to play MP you need to be online, that's good sense, not DRM. I urge you to google about Multiplayer and DRM to get informed before posting and complaining about, what you are posting and replying here makes you looking ridiculous, sorry to say.

I disagree, I find this to be very important when I buy my games and I would prefer a clear text about it without having to dig down to some hidden text, that is my complaint, something that is quite easy for gog to fix.

Anyone with an ounce of computer knowledge knows the difference between multiplayer and online multiplayer, you do know multiplayer can be done without any connection to the internet?

I urge you right back to google multiplayer, multplayer does not mean you have to be online, I am seeing this claim more and more these days where people think that multiplayer somehow means you need to connect to a 3rd party server on the internet.

I am not complaining about the "No DRM" part of the text, I am complaining about what comes after it.

Why not a text like this : "DRM FREE. No activation, GOG Galaxy Client required to access online features."

I am fully aware what DRM, Multiplayer and Online multiplayer mean.

You are confonding Multiplayer with LAN play, ever heard about a LAN connection? A 'LAN party' is not the same than Multiplayer, sorry. I've learned this 20 years ago when I made my PC administrator degree to polish my CV... As I see here, this can even help today...

And about DRM, you are saying GOG is using bad wording? I don't think so, GOG is relying to the fact that most people have good common sense to understand today's gaming principles. DRM is a technology introduced to combat illegal copies of games and software. It was always user-unfriendly and is therefore highly unpopular, so unpopular that people have stopped buying games. (My personal opinion is that DRM is promoting illegal software instead of avoiding it, but that's out-of-topic here.)
That's where GOG was jumping in years ago with DRM-Free offers, and they do well.

I have heard about LAN yes and to be honest I am a little confused why you bring that up, the definition of a LAN has absolutley nothing to do with multiplayer and I never said otherwise, however you can play multiplayer on your computer (split screen), serial connection (in the old days), LAN (standar multiplayer) or by connecting to a server on the internet (often called online multiplayer), 3 of the 4 types I mention do not need a connection to the internet but they are all multiplayer. A multiplayer game is a game of several players not how it is connected together(Split screen, Serial, LAN or Internet)!

There is no issue about the DRM part from me, the issue I have is about the contradicting statements about online connection being needed and not needed. I never said take out the DRM part. And the reason I have with that is because I have bought a game here that said exactly DRM free, No online connection required to play, however the first thing that greets me in that game is a login screen, each and every time, because to play multiplayer you need an account with the game maker, that text was hidden somewhere where I did not see it. This is the reason I have a problem with this statement since it is not entirely true.

This is your very personal interpretation of what for today's standard is multiplayer...
I have an old DOS Monopoly game, it can be played with AI computer players or some friends can join-in and play too, I would never call this a Multiplayer game, not in the 90s, less so today :)

A good example of multiplayer space game (without SP) is EVE Online, the gamemakers must run a central server to administrate the players from all over the world (a costly exercice btw.). Such games also called MMO's (Massive Multiplayer Online) require online connection and an account just for the single reason (apart many others) that there are *rules* to obey if you join a multiplayer game, there are anti-cheating setups to follow, your chatting must obey strict rules etc. etc. all this cannot be done without account and online connection. And I'm not speaking about DRM here, nothing to do with it.
Instead, the game Elite: Dangerous is combining DRM with Single & Multiplayer. Here a online connection is part of DRM for the simple reason that essential game files are on the gamemaker's server and never will be entirely on your computer, no possibility to play offline...If you don't like online connection to play Single Player, well, you have to skip this game...

In GOG, look for the tags 'Single Player' and 'Multiplayer' to know what a game is about. In the Multiplayer case, there is a adequate menu in-game to setup your connection, but this is optional of course, as long as the the game is also Single Player this doesn't matter for you if you want to skip it.

Well this is where we differ, that is clearly a multiplayer game, as I previously said, the term multiplayer has nothing to do with how it is connected together, Mutiplayer just means several or more players!

Those tags do not say if it requires an internet connection or not, just that it is multiplayer.

I am quite familiar with Eve Online.

A good example of game that does both Multiplayer and Online multiplayer is I would say Diablo 2, there you can play it on your own network since it includes the server component but you can also play it online.

I intentionally skipped MMO´s from my list of multiplayer types since they are a whole different beast.

I think you misunderstood me when I said I was confused, I was confused as to why you started talking about LAN regarding multiplayer, not what it meant.

No worries, I have a decent grasp on what it means to make a multiplayer game happen and the definition of MMO is not foreign to me.
