Hello all. If you have seen the 2005 tech demo. It's amazing! :)

Whoever owns nexus, should release the source code like the original quake trilogy. So, users in the MS windows and Linux community can improve the engine. It worked great for quake. The owners should just stick to doing the story of nexus II, let users buy the new story modules. Leave the graphics and scripting engine to users. Release the 2005 version and any new upgrades of engine plus instructions for how to compile it. Keep compatibility with the original game, but add new commands. I'v had an idea for transporter, instead of the breaching pod.

I've made a mod to fix the original scripts. I've fixed some story bugs and mostly design problems that make the game more fun. If I could sell the scripts on here drm-free, it would give me a reason to develop the scripts more. The money wouldn't be much, but enough money to merit working on it.

I would love to play the original game with the graphics I saw in the 2005 tech demo.

The owners of nexus should take this idea seriously.

The Black Sun Engine and the game's source code might be property of Square Enix Holdings Co., Ltd. now.

GOG won't sell any community content, but only proper indie games. It's probably not even legal for you to sell additions to Nexus without the approval of the rights owner. But you can always contact GOG and ask for yourself.

Well, design for EMP weapon and the pulsar (plasma weapon) designed damage shields and hull about the same. No more switching back and forth between shield attack and hull.

I like to sell it so I have reason to develop it more. The beta1 is incorporated into the game, but not finished.

The game GFX are really out of date. The demo looks great, but they couldn't raise the money. The gameplay controls and strategy is great, needs tweaking.

Quake released the source code under a general GPL license. Creative commons is good too. The Linux community would be great for upgrading the GFX.
So you're asking the owners to release the source code so people can improve the game for free and yet you want to make money off it?

When people mod or make improvements to a game they do it for the love of the game not for a financial gain.
If the source code still exists and actually were released, you can be almost guaranteed it would be under some sort of gpl non-commercial license or similar.
The game is over 10 years old. Quake 1,2,3 released the source code. It was a great success, under GPL. The data files were still under copyright. So, you still had to buy the game.

People are still buying Nexus after these many years. Releasing the source code won't change anything. Giving the it modern engine it deserves will give it a big boost. Release it under quake's model. People added quake 3 & quake 2 elements into quake 1.

true, there are many examples for such releases, see here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_commercial_software_with_available_source_code
A developer created a huge upgrade to the quake 1 engine, along with other mods(about 10 years ago). You could use a printf style function for display and some other functions. They added the ability move around HUD elements. They gave credit to everyone in their docs for anything they used. Trying to sell it for money would have been nightmare of license agreement(pay and not).

The bad news, darkplaces engine stole their functions and didn't give credit in their docs. DP manager wouldn't put proper credit in and made excuses for not. So, they left the quake community for good and erased everything.

I played this engine and it was amazing! Too bad some selfish people ruined it for them. :(

Not uncommon.

Oblivion and morrowing, really need that source code released. There is a original from scratch morrowind engine. I couldn't get it working.
