For those of you who have owned both the original and the new version, are the "enhancements" worth it for someone who plays primarily single player mods?

I don't have issues running the original, or have come across any game breaking bugs. Just a wondering.

All they enhanced was the price. They just added some mods to the original game that was already available for free from the modding community.

This is a cash grab.
I strongly disagree with Stig79. They enhanced a lot of stuff, but most of it isn't obvious stuff like graphics.
While they didn't change the game assets, they added a lot of new possibilities for content creators and
builders like shaders, fancymapping and new scripting functions.
There are also things that aren't quite finished yet, but will be in the near future like support for androit and IOS,
64 bit, automatic download of content for PWs and modules and more.
If what you were waiting for is yet another Aribeth romance or better graphics for the standard game resources,
you'll be disappointed, if you can see the potential of the "under the hood" changes they made, you should
get the EE.
Just an example what is possible with EE: www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QEGnawvS6k
And yes, this wasn't made by Beamdog, it was made by Laputian Bird and Croquette, but it wouldn't have
been possible to make something like it without the enhancements to the game.

To prove it's just a blatant lie, one may simply challenge you to find a NWN:DE mod for normal mapping support. Or anything else, really, since very few of the EE modifications were or could be provided by DE mods.

I'm sure Stig won't have any problems finding a mod for normal mapping, helmet hiding, area instancing... These are already available for free for the DE, right? Go for it, give us the links.

Graphics I don't really care about much. I grew up playing on an XT and a Commodore. As an older person, the "colored blocks" have a charm and nostalgic feeling for me, haha!

Under the hood enhancements is what I'm interested in. The ability to modify the hotbars/character sheets similar to how NWN2 does with XML, AI improvements, ability to increase party size, more flexible ability in adding classes/spells/feats, etc. That's what I'm interested in. If these features are something that's planned for later down the road, then it's more of a "should I buy now while it's on sale, or wait" situation for me. If it's not something that is already being planned, then I may just want to stick with the original.

I did note on the sales page that the original also comes with the EE. I'm guessing this is due to any possible custom script conflicts in PWs?
Beamdog went to the NWN community and asked them what they wanted, then have been implementing it, then put up a suggestion box, then have been implementing that.

NWN:EE is on gog literally because the community said "release it on gog" and so Beamdog went and added the coding needed for GOG Galaxy and released the game here.
I'd say that it's worth it at deep discount and after a good period of waiting out bugfixes (this isn't an if but a when with BD, it's just how they roll). Not the 53 bucks for deluxe, certainly. This time around Beamdog actually tried to do the right thing with NWNEE.

I don't think you're going to be missing much in the Steam Workshop at least, I'm willing to bet that most mods will still be uploaded to the usual NWN mod sites.
Is there an additional discount for NWN Diamond owners?

If you bought the GOG edition of NWN diamond, yes. Owners of the gog edition get a 60% discount. You can ger the Digital Deluxe version of NWN EE for 20 bucks...instead of 40.

Then you don't have to buy it. Simple.

In my personal opinion, this. I'm quite pleased with the 60% discount that I got on the deluxe edition as someone that already had the DE, but if it wasn't for that discount, I would have stuck with the regular release. The additional modules and soundtracks are cool, but not cool enough to warrant a $37 CAD markup.

IMHO it depends on 3 factors:

1) Could you run the Diamond Edition (DE) in a stable manner (with or without mods/patches)?
2) Are you interested in persistent worlds (PW)?
3) Do you think that Beamdog can fix and expand the game beyond its original scope?

Regarding factor one, since you can run it without any problems whatsoever in the DE, you should be OK with the old version. Personally, I never managed to reliably run the old version ever since I upgraded to win10 so I bought the EE once it released on GOG.

Regarding factor two, many famous PW have already moved to the EE version, and most will probably move on as well purely because of archaic coding of the DE servers. So if you want to play on PW, then your only long-term choice is the EE.

Regarding factor three, despite all the hate Beamdog gets, they do support their games over long periods of time(they still push out updates for BG1EE, which was their first game remake and was disastrous at launch, this is "Paradox Interactive" level of patch support) so I believe that NWN1EE will receive the same treatment.

Having said that, for me the NWN EE deluxe edition is worth the 60% discount, considering the amount of content you get and the upcoming (long term) patches.

EDIT: Typos.

I just have a question to ask. Does EE fix the video lagging issue?

Hey, you're Zwerkules from the NWN community, creator of coolest custom content! :)
Do you still mod for NWN? Are you using the EE now?

Are you sure about that? Tarot Redhand told me, after they're done with the mobile port, they plan to improve the GUI e.g. by introducing scalable True Type fonts and sliders for window sizes, and I see they've also tested some model and texture improvements like these:

https://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn1/model/aribeth-hd-beamdog
https://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn1/model/beamdog-enhanced-workshop-items

Do you know anything about that? Is there a chance they actually *will* overhaul the graphics at some point, or provide the means to do it as overrides or something?

I've bought the EE Deluxe Edition yesterday, and so far, at first glance, I don't notice any significant differences, apart from the intro videos being displayed in the middle of the screen again instead of in a window at the top left corner of the screen, as the Diamond edition does in my case. On the other hand, that also means that so far I did not encounter any issues in modding the game just like I did with the Diamon edition (disable intro movies, replace start screen and GUI design, import new portraits, add new voicesets etc. - all of that still works; note that the EE is using your documents folder now for all the mods, haks and .ini changes, just like NWN2).

I think at this point in time, for single player mode, it's not really worth the asking price yet. It might be if, like me, you see the Digital Deluxe edition at 60% off as a chance to legally own the three previously "unavailable" premium modules and the enhanced version of Darkness Over Daggerford, which has been extensively reworked and stuffed with new voiceovers, with the EE and soundtracks as a bonus. Or if you trust that BD will improve the game over time (IMO, if they had prioritized the GUI tweaks, new textures and models over the mobile version, it would have been easier to sell the game to the sceptics, but it's their business decision not mine).

Yes. And it's one reason I bought -- after I read the trello page. ( https://trello.com/b/K0C0i8wF/neverwinter-nights-enhanced-edition ) It's on the to-do list they have listed.

Mobile-port is due in less than 3 months, as well as some other nice additions (playing custom movies would be a thrill on some servers).

Updating player character models/graphics is listed as in-development >3 months due date.

Tarot Redhand sent me a link to trello as well; I'm a bit embarrassed I have to ask, but how do you read that page? Where do I have to look or click to see what they're actually working on or what they're planning?
