I played the game years back, but now I'd like to go with a Drow Wizard. I don't remember if there were enough charisma checks to justify picking up Charisma of 18 or 20 on a Wizard, or if I should just invest in Con or Dex. This is for the main campaign, not MotB or SoZ

I'd also like to know if going Drow is worth it, considering the LA +2, from what I remember it's the best of the LA +2 races, but I don't remember if it was good enough to justify the LA +2. If it's not, what race would you guys suggest? Just going with Sun Elf?

I almost always play a Drow Wizard. I increase Int to the max then put the rest into Con and Dex. After I create the character I use NWN2Editor to add 5000XP so it doesn't take as long to get to 2nd level and adjust the stats so none of them are in the negative bonus.

There are some Persuasion checks in the campaign, but you should be fine without high charisma. Personally I would consider picking Sorcerer. This will solve your Charisma problem permanently, because Sorcerer uses Charisma as its primary stat. Charisma decides how many spells he can cast per day. Generally Sorcerers are considered a much better arcane casters than Wizards. The downside is that you have to know the spell effects to pick the right ones on level up. He'll only learn five spells per level, but this downside is more than compensated by the amount of spells he can cast per day and the fact that you can exchange any of them during level up. If you pick the proper spells, none of the casters can match Sorcerer's power.

I feel like if you keep it to a more modest 14-16 where you aren't spending more than one point per point of charisma, you can then spend skill points on the method of persuasion of your choice and be fine. This will save you some points to invest in DEX &/or CON. I don't know if you are looking for effective game play or more for character nuance where you drow is totally irresistible though.
The two level hit that a drow takes is especially painful for the wizard class, but as long as you keep a safe distance behind your companions, that isn't impossible to work around. If you want a drow, by all means, play that drow. Lol.

Realistically, the first question one should ask, upon meeting a drow: "Are you here to kill us?" Roll-play-wise it is silly to consider a persuasive drow in human lands.
