Apologies if this has been answered, I did have a bit of a hunt around to check.

I've installed NWN2 using both the GOG client and normal download, tried installing into folders on multiple drives, set admin for running the exe files, checked that I'm admin, checked compatibility settings.

Two problems persist - the first is that my changes to the graphics settings don't get saved to the nwn2.ini, so when I restart it goes back to the default. I can change it directly in the .ini file and that seems to persist, though I haven't figured out what all the config strings represent.

Second problem is that when I try to create a new character for the campaigns, the game just sits on the 'logging character into module' loading screen. The pre-cooked characters are fine, but nothing new. FWIW, the NWN2 folder in My Documents has lots of folders but 0 bytes (I deleted it to let the game recreate but made no difference).

I'd really like to give this game a fair shake, but it's driving me to Divinity... err, to drink. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
It's been a while since I've played NWN 2, but as I recall, I think I had to set it to compatibility mode for either XP or Vista. Hope that helps!

EDIT: For NWN 2, you have to run it, set it to windowed mode, then make the changes you want, then set it to fullscreen at your desired resolution, and it *should* save.

Holy moly, I figured it out. Turns out Banished was having exactly the same problem (not being able to save), and it was BitDefender. In the Safe Files - Protected Folders feature, I removed the Documents folder from the protected list (or I think I could add the games individually to the trusted application list), and everything started working for NWN2 and Banished.

Hoping that someone else finds this useful (including future me on some other BitDefended machine).
