Well, I have tried several fixes, and finally put in a ticket to GOG in hopes that I can play this game. I can tell its a worthwhile rpg, and I really enjoyed the original...but wow I have never bought a game from GOG with this level of technical issues.

Constant crashing, black screening, flickering, and stuttering (almost like it wants to crash, but doesn't).

And, for some reason, once I reached Neverwinter, the game became completely unplayable. Incessant crashing within the first 5 minutes of the game every time...where as it used to "only" crash once or twice an hour.

Before it became unplayable, I had to put shadows on the low setting in order to get a decent frame rate.

This is about par for Obsidian, which seems to have a very strong grasp of the soft side of game design - story, character development, game worlds, and general game design....but has always struggled with the technical side. Almost every game I have played from this studio suffered from this bizarre dichotomy.

And I do realize I am playing an older game on newer hardware...but when this game originally released, I had similar technical issues on a gaming desktop I had at the time. I'd really like to enjoy this game, but I am pretty close to giving up.
Not sure how related this would be to your particular problems, but here's this:

An interesting read, regardless. I think the NWN2 engine is awful. They're lucky it's fun!
It sounds like a conflict with your graphics card. Neverwinter has a lot of models and a lot of animations along with a pretty hardcore draw distance. NWN2 graphics are notoriously resource intensive considering their mediocre quality. There may not be a fix for you other than changing out your card or running the game on a different rig (ironically, it runs pretty well on my brand new low-end laptop) but what are you sporting under the hood?

Exactly the same here. I've tried everything I can think of. Re-installing, following the tweak guidelines, installing that client thing that some say helps but it didn't do anything for me. Looks something like this most of the time:

I have played this great game for months, I think I had 2 crashes in all, out of the hundreds of times I played. Are you using advanced video stuff like vertical sync etc ?

I would also disactivate anything else running in the taskbar except antivirus and firewall
What graphics card are you using? I had similar types of graphical errors, flickering and crashing quite regularly in a few of games on my old Geforce 9800GT, they disappeared when i replaced it recently.
