I finished the first part of the city watchman quest and was directed to go to the Merchant Quarter to talk to Cormik and the Captain. They gave me a quest to go to the Back Alley section in the Docks Quarter but when I go to the map transition place only world map transitions are allowed. There are no city transitions (not even a red one for the Merchant Quarter I am in). I tried going to Highcliff and other spots but now I cannot even get back into Neverwinter.

Please any help would be appreciated.

Your best bet is to go back to an earlier saved game.

However depending on what else is missing from your global.xml you might be able to get back on track by editing the global.xml that's in your saved game.

add any or all of these if they aren't there.

Edit: offset them to match the existing format.

Thanks for the feedback. BTW which folder houses those files? I cannot find anything that resembles global.xms.

Just so you know I am working on my master's in education and really not all that computer savvy.

Sorry, my mistake. That's global.xml
Documents/Neverwinter Nights 2/ saves/your last saved game
You can edit global.xml with notepad.

If you are using AVG, then this is the problem:

AVG screws up the game, big-time, with you being unable to progress in various areas due to vanishing map points. For me, it was that map points vanished off the world map after the area just after West Harbor. I would not be entirely too surprised if something similar happens to you.

What fixed it for me was this:

Go to AVG settings / AVG Self Protection / Uncheck AVG self protection

olnorton's help can probably help you progress, but if you run into future issues which can not be solved with console commands, you might have to prepare yourself for the possibility of having to start from the beginning again with a fresh, untainted, save which is not corrupted. :P
