I was under the impression that all games on gog are checked to work on windows 7.This game is not working and it always crashes on start with an error message.

It works fine on Windows 7 for thousands of players, myself included.

How are you launching it?

Did you install in a folder directly off the C:/ drive (or whatever your main drive is) or within the Program Files (x86) folder?

Trying to run the game through GALAXY causes that problem for some people including myself. Try running the game without Galaxy.

I've been unable to start this game too. Which folder should it have been installed in? I simply used the GOG button for installation..

NWN (like many other games) sometimes causes problems when installed in Program Files folder which is secured by windows. That's why, it is advised to install all games somewhere else. It doesnt really matter where as long as it is not inside the program File's folder.Something like C:\Games\GOG Games\ should work just fine.

I use D: drive for all my games,nothing on C: drive,i will try to run the game without galaxy,thanks for the advice.

Thanks for this information! Makes me a bit angry at GOG for installing EVERYTHING here by default. I assume I cannot simply move the entire GOG directory; that would be naive. So, how do I switch the folder location?

It depends if you are using the GOG installer for the game or directly through Galaxy.

GOG installer: On the first page of the installer, click OPTIONS and then change "Install Games to" directory. You only need to do that once. If you ever install an other GOG game, it will remember the parent folder.

GOG Galaxy: Click GOG.com icon on top left. Click Settings. Change "Install games to" folder. This will be the parent folder for all games so it should be something like D:\Games\GOG Games

You'll probably want to uninstall first. :)

I've tried everything,and closest i can get to the game starting is error message appcrash.I tried to start from the install folder,no result.
It seems that the game just won't work for me.

It's time to post your hardware/system specs including processor and drivers.

Issues like integrated graphics or sound can be tough to breach. All we know so far is you installed some version of Win7 in a box and DL'd GoG's NWN1. Help us help you. Plz.

What do you mean no result?

Launch by clicking:
nwmain.exe

Properties on that file should have "Run this program as Administrator" checked and of course it will ask you must say yes.

I also have failed to launch at the start movies a couple of times so I have this set in nwn.ini

[Display Options]
Disable Intro Movies=1

But it doesn't sound like it is getting that far.

Sounds like a driver issue you with your PC.

Consider a driver update, and game reinstall.

If currently using another language, consider trying the English version, as it is the most complete.

Could you show the error message so others can help you?

You could try disabling Sound and Shiny Water in the nwn.ini, though that's more for eliminating crash and FPS issues.

Of the three images, I can only read the specs one. So, does that mean you've installed a foreign language version of NWN or the English one?

It has 4 cores so you may need to change the CPU affinity in the nwnplayer.ini to a lower value like -1 or -2.

I am guessing you use a Catalyst control console to adjust the ATI driver. Rather than make hit 'n miss suggestions on how to adjust it to get a game that uses an ancient version of OpenGL to open and run, I suggest visiting an AMD support forum.
