THE GAME DEFINITELY WORKS FOR WINDOWS 7. IT COULD BE AN ISSUE WITH YOUR VIDEO CARD. MAKE SURE YOUR VIDEO CARD IS UP TO DATE. BE SURE TO RUN NWNMAIN.EXE (I THINK THAT'S THE FILE -- WHATEVER ONE DOESN'T OPEN THE INTRO SCREEN WITH THE BUTTONS FOR PLAY AND TOOLET AND SO FORTH). YOU MAY WANT TO TURN ALL OF YOUR SETTINGS DOWN. AND ITS POSSIBLE THERE COULD EVEN BE AN AUDIO PROBLEM. SO JUST TURN OFF EVERYTHING AND SEE IF IT GETS RUNNING. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO RUN IT WITH UAC AT NORMAL AND RUNNING NWNMAIN.EXE IN ADMIN MODE. OH, YOU MAY NEED TO SET IT TO WINDOWS XP SP 3 UNDER COMPATIBILITY. GOG OFFERS GREAT GAMES AT GREAT PRICES WITH NO DRM. I HOPE YOU'LL CONSIDER USING THE SITE IN THE FUTURE. You said you run the game as Administrator, but did you run the installation setup file as Administrator?
You might also try turning off your antivirus software while you install it.
And don't install in C:\ProgramFiles(x86)........

There is a correct way to ask for help, and an incorrect way to ask for help.

Firstly, the forums do contain helpful information and there are many who will help with these kinds of problems, but it is highly recommended that you send in a support request to GOG support. After all, you made your purchase from GOG, so they provide support for getting it to run for you.

Secondly, posting on forums in full caps is considered to be the equivalent of shouting and/or angry. Neither of these is a good way to attract help from others who might help you.

And lastly, with the accusations of GOG's installer being corrupt (which it clearly isn't as there are many users who have NWN1 running it fine on Win7 x64 as evident from various forum posts - there is the possibility that your download is corrupt though, but there are ways of checking whether or not that is the case) and coming out with statements like "IS THE FIRST AND LAST TIME I EVER BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS SITE", it just comes across as very much like a child's tantrum, which again may put others off from helping, and indeed some users will deem it pointless to try to help you. But of course, it is your choice whether or not you continue to purchase games from GOG.com, but you'll miss some absolute gems of games if you don't.

As this is your first purchase and with you being a new user, I'll put the above down to inexperience and will offer some advice. I can't make any guarantees that these suggestions will work as all computers are different what with different hardware and different software, so what works for one person may not work for another, but it is worth trying anyway.

So, looking for possible solutions; well, you've tried running the game as admin, but did you install it by running the installer as admin? And avoid Program Files (x86) as some older games just don't get on well with it - partly UAC and partly DEP being the causes as old games were never written to handle these newer security measures, so installing into an unprotected folder can solve some issues. Also, as is mentioned in a few of the forum questions, some users have to run the game from the NWNMAIN.exe which is the one exe you said you didn't run (I don't know why chose not to use it). And as Tallima said, you may need to run as admin or try different compatibility modes on the NWNMAIN.exe to get it working correctly.

It makes it harder for most other people to read. If you have a hard time reading, use your browser to increase your font size display (usually Ctrl-+ or Ctrl-scrollwheel).

On systems with AMD/ATI cards you need to disable Catalyst A.I which makes the game crash at launch.

Second I just borrowed a hard caopy froma friend and guess what?

Starts right up and runs fine....even without that 1.69 patch or whatever

played about 4 hours and no crashes or bugs found.....

I just love the responses from customer service.....run as admin....update graphics driver( which is up to date)

Well, I gave hellmonster67 the benefit of the doubt as they were new, but it seems my initial suspicions were indeed correct. Not sure I can really believe anything they said as the attitude displayed here does not fit that of an older person, and instead it appears quite childish because of the unnecessarily abrasive comments made against GOG, and saying that they are ripping people off.

Clearly the terms and conditions of usage of GOG.com were ignored too what with insisting for a refund. Once you download a game from GOG.com you don't get a refund. Mainly because the games are DRM free so once you have a copy downloaded you may say it doesn't work or that you've deleted it but nobody can tell, therefore giving a refund is just not possible.

Oh, and seriously, thinking that their comments on Google will be a threat to GOG.com?

Notice that we've never been given hellmonster67's system specs, and if GOG support weren't given the specs either then the advice given is all they can be expected to give, update drivers, run as admin, etc.

Also that they say they installed the retail disc version without installing the 1.69 patch (I think Kingmaker only takes it up to 1.66 but I might be wrong). As GOGs version is fully patched they therefore didn't do a like for like comparison between the retail and GOG versions. So who is to say it isn't something about the 1.69 patch that causes the issue that was experienced?

It would be interesting to find out from GOG support whether they did actually raise a support request to them. And if they did, and the request was made with the same attitude as displayed here, well, there's just no helping some people.

Bypass the launcher. Run the game from the root directory. The game client is called nwn.exe.

3)LOCATE A FILE NAMED "atioglxx.dl_" IN "$_OUTDIR\Packages\Drivers\Display\W76A_INF\" IN YOUR EXTRACTION PATH
4)EXTRACT THIS FILE JUST LIKE YOU DID WITH THE INSTALLER, YOU'LL END UP WITH A FILE NAMED "atioglxx.dll"
5)COPY THAT FILE TO WHERE THE "NWNMAIN.EXE" OF YOUR INSTALLATION RESIDES

I have had the same Probleme like hellmonster67.I've fixed it running the Game in compatibility mode win xp sp3 and it works fine.Found this hint on this page pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Neverwinter_Nights.

The atioglxx.dll i have tried too but didn't work for me.
