So finally I have the time, the mood and the appropriate hardware to relive the glorious days of my first Neverwinter Nights 2 experience.

BUUTTTT:

I can't switch on EAX and doubt that the sound my fireball will be positioned correctly with me 5.1 Audio setting?
Am I right, I'm pretty sure that game is "new" enough to support that.

Next,
I can't seem to be able to to watch the intro movie where the Amon Jerro one the coolest Anti-Hero of all times shatters his blade...

Last,
since I now have the processing power I wanted to look at a gorgeously lushful scenery. Are there any tweaks and cosmetical surgey to make this game even more good looking?

You can thank Microsoft for that. They removed the necessary Direct Sound files for EAX-support in Win 7 (Vista too, I believe). Win 8 should have them again, from what I heard. If you don't have Win 8 or XP, you could try Creative's Alchemy. If it is compatible with your soundcard, it will re-enable EAX.

The Intro got disabled by one of the expansions for some reason (I think it was MotB). It should be possible to re-enable it in one of the .ini files in the My Docs-folder for NWN 2, but I don't have the game installed at the moment, so I can't verify this.

For the environment, NeilMc's texture packs are the best. For trees specifically, however, Trees Textures Overhaul is better, in my opinion.

As for plastic surgery, you can't go wrong with Xaltar's Facelift Pack.
The movies are in .bik format. Here's a link to a decent .bik player:

You can play any of the movies outside of the game with this player.

The original NWN2 intro movie can be re-enabled using this mod.

In addition to the texture packs above, enable transparency anti-aliasing using your graphics card control panel - this will smooth out the edges of leaves on trees and facial textures.

Pretty much, without a Creative Labs sound card running Creative's drivers you're out of luck when trying to turn on EAX from within a game.

However, the proscribed workaround for that in Win7/8 is to install OpenAL which will work in any game that supports it and many do. It's not EAX, but it can mimic it and provide positional sound--but only in those games that support it (like EAX.)

OK, I just checked my own system-installed version of OpenAL and I'm running OpenAlwEAX (with EAX) which you can get here:

..and from many other sources. Just Bing/Google "OpenALwEAX download". This might be more of what you're looking for. Works great for me and my sound is currently furnished via RealTek hardware.

I believe that CL offers a proprietary version of OpenAL that specifically works with its cards, but these days I'm all into stereo phones and the TrueAudio kind of DSP acceleration which is bringing 360-degree sound (making 5.1/7.1 seem downright crude) to *ordinary stereo phones* and works with any installed sound card...! Check out the demo (best listened to in normal stereo(!)) and it's amazing...

Check out the Nexus mod site:

Lots and lots of great tweaks which I now consider necessary to fully enjoy the game. And, you can also try the full remake of Baldur's Gate using the NWN2 engine that is available from the site...!
