Ok, question time.

I just tried to start up Mysteries of Westgate for the first time without being online. The game then gave me the following message:

"Unable to reach the authentication sever to authenticate your module. Please check your internet settings and try again."

Well, sure enough, once I started the campaign while being online, it worked as it's supposed to. Suffice to say I did NOT expect this from a GOG release that should be completely free of any DRM. >_>

I have since uninstalled and then reinstalled the game to confirm / reproduce this. I got the same message while once again attempting to start MoW for the first time without being connected to the internet.

The other three campaigns work just fine. It's only MoW, the only product in the bundle that ever had online activation DRM, that's causing a bit of trouble here.

If any of the GOG tech staff could shed some light on this issue, I'd be very thankful.

That's really odd, since MoW had the authentication removed a while after release. How long did you wait before shutting it down? I wonder if it is a similar situation to the original NWN, where the authentication server is down, but after waiting for a short while, it just bypasses the check and lets you load up the game regardless.
I got the same thing ... only happens the first time & looks more like bad code (runs an add) than DRM to me.
We are working on it right now.

Thank you. :) I'll be waiting.

Waiting doesn't seem to help here, as the game simply aborted the loading process and just took me back to the main menu. : /

Well, GOG seem to be on the trail, so let's see what happens.

Please give a mention once this has been fixed, I'm in no hurry to download the game, but I'll start when this is fixed so I won't have to download anything again.

Same for me I will wait updated installer . I don't like patches .
Another wannabe MoW player here. Good to read that GoG are working on this!

(Hark at me with all my TLAs...)
I don't think this game has been patched to the point where its DRM-free. I'm making a topic about this soon.

Ossian studios (creators of MoW) only removed the activation limit but you still have to activate MoW:

MoW's serial key is stored in the Westgate.ini file, but so far there's no way to play MoW without activating it over the internet. Maybe GoG can ask Ossian to help them remove the online authentication :/

They will and better do so, given the DRM free pledge of the site. If they can't I imagine compensation would be offered and MoW removed from the package.
No . I think remove is not acceptable :S
Indeed, not acceptable. If they remove MoW, I'll ask for a refund. I already had the retail version NWN2 with MotB and SoZ. The main reason I bought it again was to get MoW DRM-Free.

Fortunately I haven't downloaded the game yet.
Seeing this makes me glad I was my usual lazy self and didn't yet get around to buying this. Overall a very sloppy oversight on the part of GOG. Come on guys, you really need to do better.
