Taxonomic: The downside to using the client extension is that it makes the game unstable and prone to CTDs.

PeterScott: If you don't like the Client Extension there is a lightweight solution that someone did for Jade Empire. It works in several games that have this fault, including NWN 2.

Just drop this DLL into your game directory:
https://bitbucket.org/fk/jade-empire-stutter-fix/downloads/

I use it, and once you drop the DLL in your game directory, you just launch the game as normal, it changes nothing but this one bug. Simple and lightweight.
This worked great for me! Thanks! Drop the DLL like he said.

I know this is an old topic, but as of July 2018, the above fix still works. You only need the DLL to be dropped into the game directory and it worked amazing.

Thanks so much!

This seems to have worked for me, too. Thanks so much!
Hello, I tried this and it didn't work.

Specificaly, I put "d3d9.dll" into the "GoG\NWN2 Complete" folder and then I ran nwn2.exe

When I loaded up a game it still stuttered massively.

Any idea what I can do to fix this without installing some program? It seems that DLL worked for others, any idea why i t isn't for me?

I have a crazy fast PC, GTX 1080, etc. It shouldn't be getting visibly chopping FPS (guessing 10-20 fps).

It might not be the Stutter bug. Everyone who leaves their computer running a long time will have the stutter bug, but to be clear, if a reboot doesn't fix your issue, it isn't the stutter bug, and the DLL won't fix it either.

It might be a driver issue, as sometimes some NVidia drivers have killed NWN performance.
Every single thread about this issue since 2011 has had the same solution "restart the computer".

Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10... restart the computer. It's not a driver issue.
Dll Fix worked for me like a charm! Thank you very much guys, i was losing hope.

Nice @ the lightweight solution for Jade Empire and NWN2.

Do you know what other games this actually works on?

Does this DLL fix mainly work on BioWare and/or Aurora Engine based games?
I vaguely recall there being one more game, but don't know what it was.
I'm about to start a multiplayer playthrough of the OC and MotB with a friend or 2 and am already using the Client Extension because of that, then I found this thread when trying to find ways of stabilizing the FPS for the game as much as possible, and just had a question for anyone that may know the answer:

Does the Client Extension mod include the fix that the DLL does or can they be used together? I ask because if they are fixing separate engine bugs/issues I'd rather use them together unless of course using them together causes problems.

Client Extension fixes the same issue as the DLL, and does a LOT more. I tried them both, but didn't try them together.

If you are using the Client Extension anyway, I would skip the DLL fix, since they both fix the same bug, they might clash, and there is no point if you are using Client Extension.

Good to know, thanks
