Can I install the same copy of NWN DC to two computers and play it on a home network? Or would I need a second copy?

Thanks in advance.

I think you can do it yes.

Only you need to use a fake CD-key on the other install (or a real but other CD-key).

As long as you don't connect to the internet you will be ok...and this is legal as well.

GOG says you can install as many copies of the game you like..as long as you "own the computers"...or "borrow" them i worst case I guess...

Two games can't play with each other as long as they have the same CD-key. Pretty logic when you think about it....

Just edit the NWNCDKEY.INI file for the other installation with another cd-key....

Thank you very much for the quick reply. I'll try as you said and write back the result.

Also, do you know if there are any updates for the game once it's installed and is it possible to update it with the other cd-key?

To change the CD-key for the game is not the same as "updating". I am not sure what you mean by updating in this case...you mean changing the CD-key right?

You may want to install the 1.69 patch since there is an issue with color customization during character creation that, for some reason, goes away with the last official patch. Read more about this here:

I don't know how a fake cd key would affect this, I haven't tried, but it's just an executable installer that you can run without being connected to the internet so I don't think it does any checks...

You should always use the critical rebuild patch for the game.

GOG's version of the game is not good and will not work without this.

It has been discussed in numerous threads around here....
No, I meant "updating" the game not the cd-key. Better rephrasing of my question might be: Can I still update the game after changing the cd-key?

Thanks a lot. I'll definitely check this out.

Updating the game is one thing. Changing the CD-key is another thing.

I don't think that the patch for updating checks the CD-key no...there is only one way to found out though.

To be sure you could just update the game while having the same "old" cd-key on. Update both games I mean....and THEN change the CD-key for the other game.

The thing is....I think the other CD-key needs to be a "proper" CD-key as well. How you will get around with this I don't know really as we are getting close to the borders of legality now...

I am not sure if just cycling the last numbers in the CD-key will help that is...hopefully someone else can answer this....

Personally I don't see the problem with that other friend that you play with just gets his own copy of NWN and that you both get proper CD-keys for online play...then the problem is solved forever....

...it is 10$ we are talking about after all not?....
Yes, of course. My friend wanted to see the game first and then decide to get it or not.

Anyway, it turns out that while you can single play with the fake cd-keys you can not even start a multiplayer game. Because before you start any kind of a multiplayer game it wants you to create an online account. And you can't do that without a proper cd-key.

For the update though, you do not need a proper key as it's a standalone exe file.

Big thanks again for all your response guys. Cheers!

It is just easy, if you only want to play with 2 Computers.

Request the Multiplayer Key in the Support Section, and use these new keys for your version. The other Game then uses the original keys, that can't be used for multiplayer and you shall be fine :)
I have my doubts if playing on a LAN with multiple people using the same copy would be legal.

I think it's ok to install on several computers as long as you only run once instance at the same time. I think each player would need his/her own copy if you want to play together.

Better ask GOG for an official statement.
