On my first attempt I overshot the top and landed on the path coming up. I was about chest deep in the stone but was able to walk up the path to directly below the cloth. I tried to jump and activate the cloth and failed. I expected to land on the top but instead fell completely through the structure. On every attempt I make I fall through the structure and exit the bottom. I have googled and found a few mentions of this problem but no specific remedy found. One post mention to check your Ki I have done so, same results. I even found a vid clip on youtube shows how a player did his jump. I can land near his spot but always continue through. Its like the structure is made out of tissue paper. Is there a sweet spot you nee to hit or something?

Any help would be appreciated.

Is this with gog's version of URU CC ? The reason i ask is because i was under the impression that this was a problem sometimes in the original URU and that this problem was corrected by installing one of the expansions.

This is the gog version of Uhu CC
Ok, so i've managed to reproduce the issue. I ended up halfway buried on the path and after moving about a bit i fell through the scenery.

Apparently this only happens when landing on the circular path leading up to the top portion of the plateau though, when landing on the top portion of the plateau (right in front of the cloth) this doesn't happen, or at least it's not happening at my end.

The only think i can think of in terms of suggestion is do a run/jump from a bit behind the edge of the rotating arm so that you land dead smack in front of the cloth.

I've seen mentioned a couple of times that jumping to the plateau a bit after the rotating arm has passed by it instead of jumping towards it as the arm is approaching or aligned with the plateau also works but i haven't checked it myself.

Thanks for the information. I have completed this in the last hour. I consider this a workaround and not a solution. I quit trying to do a running jump. No matter how I tried using the jump even dead center landings in front of the cloth caused me to fall through the rocks.
If you look at the path coming up the rocks you will notice the last few feet to the top rise very sharply. I used this area as my landing area. I used a running leap. NO Jump key. Landing on or very near this one area will let the player survive. Your are still chest deep in the rock but alive. Navigate carefully using the arrow keys until you are in front of the Cloth. Using your curser activate the cloth. Do not try and jump. Activating the cloth will cause the game to refresh and magically you will rise like a cork . Standing atop the plateau. I did use the jump key to get onto the moving walkway . Wish I had not tried the jump up to activate the cloth on my very first attempt.

Hope this might help some else.

Since you mentioned you 'rised' to a correct position after touching the cloth and refreshing the Age's state i wonder if reseting the Age entirely from your Relto bookshelf would also have fixed the problem...

In any case, it's good to know you can move on and enjoy the rest of the game.

Update

I didn't realize I would have to go to the plateau a second time. This game has twist in the game line. Here is some information I should have included in my first post.
My equipment as follows:
Samsung RF710 laptop
1.60 gigahertz Intel Core i7 Q 720
4GB Ram
NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 1GB memory with latest drivers
Windows 7 64bit Home all updates complete

I started playing this game running Windows 7 X64 native with no emulation.

After I pass this point I ran into a branch error crash. The fix for that was to continue running the game in emulation mode XP sp3. That solved my problem and I continued the game in that mode. When I realized that I again had to go to the plateau I had hopes that the mode change would solve my previous problem. Not so. Same conditions as before. I completed this area and the Age, using method described in previous post.

As to resetting the Age in the Relto book. I will have to show my ignorance and ask how that is done.

Thanks

You can reset any Age from your Relto by pressing the D'ni symbol for Zero (square with a dot in the center) below that Age's book. This will reset all puzzles in that Age (although i'm under the impression the Journey Cloth progress is kept). In any case, i was just wondering if the reset would fix the plateau jump glitch, but since you've managed to overcome that on your own there's not much point in trying it.

Since you completed the Age and reached the Bahro Cave already you'll only have to go to the plateau once more. I hope you've marked the Journey Cloth on the plateau before jumping down as that would make reaching the plateau again a simple matter of using the cloth page on your Gahreseen book.
In case anyone still has this issue, it's a framerate problem. So it is solved by running a FPS limiter of some kind and setting FPS to 30, whether video recording software (fraps, dxtory) or something else.
Sam problem
I have the exact same problem - I keep falling completely through the pillar regardless of the landing location. I have tried various compatibility settings (XP SP2, XP SP3) and in native W7 64bit professional. I am also using the GOG version of URU Complete Chronicles. My graphics card is an nVidia GTX970. This is a NEW problem for me. All my previous times playing the Gahreesen level my landings on the pillar were totally successful. The only difference here is a recent update to my graphics card from nVidia. I will un-do that update and try again to see if that is the cause of my problem and will post an answer here after the test.
I rolled back my nVidia graphics driver to 381.65. However, this did NOT solve the falling through the pillar problem. Additional roll backs did not help either. My next solution attempt was to run the game WITHOUT my GTX970 all together. I rebooted to my BIOS and turned off my GTX970 card and switched to my on board intel HD graphics contained within my i5-4590 cpu. This has resolved my falling through the pillar problem. It ALSO seems to have solved my problem in Er'Cana when I drop the pellets into the upper Bahro cave then link to the lower Bahro cave to await their illumination of the walls so I can get the correct alignment of the fireplace grid marks. The GTX970 had the effect of preventing the lower cave illumination! So, if you are having either of these problems, I recommend using your on board intel graphics from your cpu (if you have one). When you finish playing the game, you can go back to your graphics card.
Solved the problem by limiting framerate to 30fps using "Frame Rate Target Control" in the AMD driver settings. I'm guessing the Nvidia driver has a similar option.

I seem to have the same issue and NVIDIA doesn't have any option to limit framerate. I searched and searched to no avail. I tried at least 20 times, if not more, to jump on the platform, and the game just acts like the platform isn't there. Seems I need once again to create a VirtualBox VM and wait forever to setup Windows XP on it, and wait forever for it to install updates. This is a real non sennse. And in addition, the controls of the game are really inaccurate. Regularly, I click on the bookshelf in the Relto and nothing happen. I have to try, try, try, move the player a bit, try again and it ends up working. Same with the elevator, sometimes it just moves the character forward even though I clicked on the button. Having to do and redo and redo the same part again and again really drives me insane. Is there any way to skip this and get to have the game behave as if I got that journey cloth?

When I make this jump, I don't aim for the top of the plateau because I always missed. So I start my jump aiming more for the lower ledge (nearest edge as you approach) and then walk up to the top. I've never had the glitch you're describing landing in that spot.
