I've played Riven several times from an old DVD, so I was pleased to find a version I could download and run on Windows 7. BUT I've reached the marble puzzle and entered the proper solution, and got no response. I checked my work, even got a printout of how the puzzle should look off a walkthrough site, but nothing.
I assume you mean the colored marbles one on the main Island.
Isn't there a switch on the wall you have to press ?
Yes. the big waffle iron in the top of the Golden Dome, that you have to solve to make the linking books in the rotating domes work. One arranges the colored marbles in the appropriate places on the grid, then flip the switch that brings down the big contraption onto the grid. If working properly, I recall you get a satisfying hum to signal you've done it right, and the linking books start working. I have arranged the marbles properly, and throw the swith. Big machine moves down...no payoff. Tried removing all marbles and doing it over. No. Checked and double-checked my marble pattern. I've got it right, but nothing happens.
Any chance you're mixing up the lighter and darker yellow marbles ?
checked that. Orange one on the puzzle, yellow one on the side. Tried it both ways just to be sure.
I'm sorry, i'm really not seeing what could have gone wrong.
Check the attached pic. Is that how you're placing them ?

Yes. That is exactly how my setup looks. I don't believe there are any other enabling switches...just set the marbles up like that and throw the one big switch on the wall.
Is there some way for me to upload my saved game? Has no one else had this problem?

I remember you had to pull the switch down and press a button under it. Did you do it? Because I finished the game playing Gog's version.
I did finished gog's version of Riven a while back, so i know that puzzle worked for me. Either it's a bug or we're missing something.
You can attach it here, just rename the file to savegame.rvn.jpg.

Okay, here you go. Perhaps you can figure out if I'm crazy.
It's the button. I missed that. I think I was thrown off because the switch animation doesn't show. Thanks for helping me figure it out.

Ah, there's always one more switch or some little thing real easy to overlook ;)

After you throw the switch there is a white button just above the switch lever. It looks like a light, but when you push it you will know that you did everything OK, because you will hear and see commotion from the marble press.
Hello to anyone out there who finished Riven on gog's version.

I NEED HELP!!!

After the marble machine you have to go back to the rotating room and then to an elevator that is suposed to take you to the ground level. I can't find this elevator and the one that seems to be the one just goes up and down without me on it.

It was actually the one that you push a button on the wall to get it to complete a small portion of the bridge. Ahh think I'm going crazy.

Does anyone else know what I'm talking about? (Not the going crazy part)

Hello, I hope I'm not too late.

I know exactly what you are talking about(Also: the going crazy part). I also know exactly which elevator you are talking about. I'm not one for spoilers, but I will try to guide you in the right direction. Let me ask you though, are you using a walkthrough for this? If so, stop it! LOL Anyway....there is more to that elevator than meets the eye. Pushing the button to make it go up and down, over and over, always the same result; it will drive you crazy. Try to think about it from other angles.

There are other alternate paths to progress in the game.

As an alternative to figuring the elevator, think about the purpose of that dome. Look at the diagram on the railing from inside. There is always another route in this game.
I have done the pattern and the machine won't turn on or move the marbles back meaning you did it wrong... The book stays black like there is no power and this is killing me not to finish it.
