So, I downloaded RealMyst, went through the configuration, and as soon as I started up the game, a box came up telling me about how the game was needing a Indeo Video Codec. I shrugged and figured things would be alright.
Unfortunately, all videos in RealMyst are white. And to make things worse, the link the game sends me to so that I can download the Codec wants me to pay a whopping 15 dollars to simply DOWNLOAD the codec.
Anyways, this obviously isn't how the GoG version is supposed to work, so any advice on what to do would be appreciated. So far I've tried all different settings in RealMyst and tried compatibility mode to no success. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
I got the indeo codecs from here when i needed them for the Prince of Persia animations videos.
Also, take a look in this thread for a setup that seems to be working for most people who experienced issues with this game (scroll down a bit to the point by point instructions post)

I'll try the codecs, the thread with the instructions didn't help. I bought this game here on GoG so that I wouldn't need to hunt down old codecs for the game, like with the GoG version of Myst, which works perfectly right out of the box.

Regarding the codecs, if it seems to hang on the step "looking for netscape instances" just wait a while and it will move on. It happened to me, as you can see in this thread, but it did install fine.
Hmm.... still no luck. Even after installation... :/
Does GoG give refunds if a game does not work? I bought it yesterday, so it hasn't been long.

Regarding refunds,
as you might imagine usually, no, but you'll have to ask gog yourself. In any case, what you can do is to contact support, and i'm sure they'll solve your issue with the game. Don't forget to provide your DxDiag.
In the meantime, try to reboot your machine. Sometimes it's needed, sometimes it's not, but it can't hurt to try
You can also try to install a codec pack in case it's a different codec that's missing.
Edit:
Go to your game folder and look for the Scn/Maps folder. Can you play the . AVI files ?

I sent a report to GoG. And I can play some of the .avi files. Not all of them though. Although I did uninstall the codec though once I rebooted and tried RealMyst again to no luck, since I've had issues with codecs in the past.

I've looked around the web a bit, but i didn't find anything similar to your issue, except for one thread related to the mac version.
Other than making sure your drivers and DirectX are up to date, i can't think of anything else right now, but i'll post back if i happen to find anything.
Have just bought the game myself, and have the same problem... although it seems obvious why that is now. Most of the video files are in the Indeo codec format, and that codec is unsupported and not compatible with Vista or 7 (using 7 myself). This is according to information on the official site, and Wikipedia.
Somewhat annoying, as I bought this after finding that another game I bought from GOG - Myst: Masterpiece Edition - was also pretty much unplayable (application likes to lock up every few minutes regardless of compatibility settings, have to ctrl-alt-del and kill the process). Looks like I'll just have to pass on the first game.

I'm on Win7 64 bit and the indeo codec i linked above installed perfectly on my machine, althouhg i can't say if is the same codec that's causing this issue you guys are having, as i already had it installed when i installed RealMyst.
You should contact support.
To which page does the game or windows redirects you when it complains about the missing codec ?
Well I resolved the problem - setting to XP SP3 compatibility mode fixed it. Should have tried this beforehand, seeing as it also fixed the non-playing videos in Myst: ME. Have GOG hard-coded XP/Vista support? (in the sense that it doesn't recognise W7 and as such doesn't apply their fixes to the application, but I can choose any XP or Vista compatibility mode and suddenly everything seems to work).
PS - Yeah, saw your link for the Indeo installer, but didn't really want to get that (and as it turns out, I won't need to). The Indeo codecs have security issues, hence why I'd rather not have them installed if I can avoid it. Thanks though.

I contacted support, and so far I have gotten the usual things, like trying different compatibility modes, etc, and still no luck. :(
I have the same problem on windows 7 64-bit
Edit:
Actually this seems to work, DON'T USE T&L in your video settings

My game runs fine now, videos and all!

Already tried that, and still have the issues. D:
So you set your video card to DIRECT3D HAL in the settings and it still gives you the problem? Make sure you also use XP compatibility mode and run as administrator.
