Poor is an understatement, I am unable to do anything once the game launches. The intro plays okay, but once you get to the starting point at the docks the whole game comes to a standstill. My frame rate drops down to 1-2 FPS. Cant do anything really. If i spam the ESC key the menu will come up, while in the menu the game is responsive and i can save, load, quit with no problem, it is just during actual game play.
I tried running in different resolutions 800x600x32 all the way to my native res 1920x 1080, no change. I turned the textures to low, no change. I change my Direct 3d settings from (direct3d T & L HAL) to (direct3d HAL), no change.
all GPU drivers are up to date, all windows updates are current.
Here are my PC info also.
My system information is:
Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 940 Processor, MMX, 3DNow (4 CPUs), ~3.0GHz
Memory: 4GB RAM
Hard Drive: 250 GB, 750GB
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285
Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 32-Bit
What else can i do?
Any one else run into this problem?
Thanks

yep, I can confirm. Was running into the same exact issues with the bad framerate. XP SP3 compatability mode solved all problems. What a nice, easy solution!
This game should run fine, I played it on my dads Pentium4 with integrated graphics YEARS ago at quite playable frame rates. It's gotta be a compatibility issue.
THANK YOU guys for this thread! I was having the exact same problem. I was able to walk around a bit on the island and think it is something in the Library that causes the slowdown to 1-2 fps when it is being rendered. But I've switched to XP SP3 compatibility mode and it works perfectly now.

Yeah I googled this forum after my first run of the game. Couldn't understand why the intro video was running so slowly, and the flythrough didn't show up on the book. Once I clicked on the white space where the flythrough was supposed to be, I got to the island and after about 2 seconds of looking around, the game just basically died. This thread saved my life haha!!!
After looking around for solutions, I figured one out that might work with increasing your FPS. You will need to download the nGlide 3DFX Glide wrapper and set your video driver to be in glide mode. Not sure how well it will work for everyone else, but for me the performance increased dramatically but there are still a few spots of lag but it is not game breaking at all.
Yep, worked for me too, Thanks! It looks beautiful now :)

Check the first page of replies and look for mine. I have a solution you might want to try out that may fix the problem.
There is only one thing needed to fix this game!!!

Install Indeo codec. This fixes the missing videos in the books and stops the poor performance when you face towards the library. Again somehow related to the videos in the books.

Have the same issue, just got the game, if I find anything I'll let you know
I had a really low FPS too, at times, like when turning to face the hill at the dock, but compatibility mode seems to have mostly fixed it for me.

Many thanks! Installing Indeo codecs fixed it! Now I can play without problems even on 64bit Windows 7 Home Premium, SP1.

Game is installed in default directory (c:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\realMyst\) and I am not using any tweaks like compatibilty mode or run as administrator. I tried 800x600 and 1920x1200 resolutions 32bit, high texture quality both working great.

I think, GOG.com can safely add that this game is compatible with Windows 7. Though it would be great to pack codecs with game or at least provide link to codecs download.

Just downloaded this and have tried all the fixes listed to no avail. Tried running in Glide, with lowest settings, and Indeo codec installed, but game is unplayable due to extreme low FPS.

Win 7 64 bit
Ati Mobility 5870 GPU
Did you try the XP SP3 compatiblity option. I had the same problem until I switched the compatibilty option. Worked like a charm.

Amazing how one little dropbox can make all the difference.
Thanks for this thread.

I had all the problems mentioned: 1-2 FPS, no videos in the books, crashes... I was extremely disappointed by this purchase.

Made my day. Thanks a lot.
