While I like SCUMMVM and am A-OK with using it(mac and linux versions now please) could the original version be re added as a bonus for posterity?

I still have the old version installed (31853600). I'm backing up the game directory prior to doing an update. I'll report back as to what exactly the difference is.
Since the new ScummVM version doesn't allow access to all game features, I second the request to make the last build based on the Riven DVD set available as a roll back, in the interest of preservation.

I could be mistaken, but can't you just navigate to the game folder and run the exe without ScummVM?

Out of curiosity, which features are missing? I know almost nothing about Riven, but I've been meaning to play it for years.

What features aren't available in the game?

Wow... just... wow. You couldn't be more wrong if you tried. Cyan and Broderbund directly added the easter egg, it's not from another company. The easter egg even showcases Cyan workers.

There's nothing lame about it for those that grew up with this game and series. That's extremely callous and dismissive.

The developer console that ScummVM breaks disables a lot of other useful features as well, as you can view on the page for Riven on the cutting room floor.

My understanding from ScummVM's website is that ScummVM has to be modified to work with each specific game. As such, ScummVM doesn't break or disable anything in a game they try to support, it just doesn't support everything in whatever game they are working on as of yet.

So, it's a matter of someone figuring out how to get various parts of the game to function with what ScummVM provides, or write something new for ScummVM to handle it. But that's just my impression, I don't work on it.

Probably the old version is there, I have not tried it, but into the game folder there is a riven.exe. You could try to run the game from there and see if in that way the game runs as a vanilla version of the game. If so, probably wont run flawesly under windows 10.
