I can get the games to download and install, on realMyst I can see the video of the book falling. However, once I click the book, it all goes to pot. The quicktime display of the passover of the island is just a mass of pixels, which take over the entire screen if I click to enter the book.
I've tried several compatibility modes- XP just makes the book opening graphic loop, and clicking the window does nothing. Vista loops the book pages opening as well, though once I was able to enter the game, which froze as soon as I tried to open a door.
Alt + F4 has become my best friend, sadly.
My setup is as follows (as far as what's relevant)-
Windows 7 x64
Nvidia GeForce GTX 275 (dual monitors running)
Quicktime Plaver v 7.6.5
Antivirus- ESET (which has not said anything about realMyst)

change the graphic setup 3d hal , there are several post re this subject
Change the setup utility (realMYSTSetup.exe) in your realMyst folder to run as admin always
2. Set the RealMystStart exe to windows xp sp3 compatibility and check off run as admin.
3. Set your 3D Hardware to Direct3d HAL and NOT Direct3d T&L HAL
4. Set your resolution to whatever you want (I'm running 1920x1080 32 bit)
5. Set your texture quality to High (that's what I'm running at least)
6. I have Full Scene Anti-Aliasing on and it works fine, ymmv
7. Select ok and run RealMystStart.exe (the exe with the yellow gog icon and not the myst book one).

Worked like a charm. Thank you for the detailed instructions. I'm new to Windows 7 and have never used Vista: still using XP mainly. Had all kinds of problems before doing what you suggested - thanks again.
P.S. 1920x1080 with Full Scene Anti-Aliasing is a little choppy with Ion graphics on a net top pc but playable.

Doesn't work for me. I think this is probably due to my Windows 7 account not being an admin account.
This suddenly started working for me when I tried it again. I had two HAL devices with identical names and selecting the other made the game work. Very odd.
I cant get the game to run. I have tried changing compatability to each option available, but each time I try to run the install, I get an error saying.....
The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see wether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64 bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher.
I have clicked run as administrator but nothing works.
Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

I'm getting a problem where it says the disk isn't in the drive. Anyone know how to fix this?
Contact Cyan about this on their support page. No one may have let them know about these problems yet;

To get Real Myst to work on Windows 7 64 bit, including Vista, (not sure about 8 yet, or 10), but Windows 7 I got my copy to work, I just purchased Real Myst and it runs on my end. I didn't even have to change the T&L settings most say, here is what I did to install and get Real Myst to run without lag or issues....

1. Install Real Myst into my Program files (not x86 program files)
2. After install, change Real Myst's executable file to run as Windows XP SP2 and run as admin.
3. Change Real Myst's yellow icon (the launcher on desktop) to Windows XP SP2 and run as admin.
4. In the Real Myst setup launcher window, which detects hardware, select your GPU, I left T&L on, change your screen resolution to whatever you want.... and untick "Use Direct Sound" (mine was already unticked), because Direct Sound causes sound issues in the Selentic age.

After doing those 4 easy steps.... the game runs fine.

*If you an NVidia card, you can go to the NVidia Control Panel and add Real Myst.exe to the list of programs in "manage 3D settings" page, and than you can customize more visual options, like v-sync, or other things to get the game to run more smoothly.
