Hi,
I couldn't find it mentioned anywhere in this forum, maybe someone will find it useful. The left side of the note about the vault - the one from the Stoneship Age - says, all marker switches should be in "off" position. It's supposed to be "on". In original Myst this was correct. I wonder, if Real Myst has the same bug.
I had the same problem. It really irritated me, and I'll have to look into if there were other reported cases like this. *Goes to Google*
I never played the original Myst, but I did play the ME back in the day on a CD. This was the only puzzle that seemed to have an incorrect clue, and I just figured back then that Sirius had written the note wrong, or it was a typo. After surfing the wild waves of AOL, I discovered it was just a typo.

I never had any trouble with an incorrect clue for any of the other puzzles, and had (relatively) little difficulty finishing the game.

This just happened to us. Only guess I have is that when some of the art was redone for the Masterpiece version they introduced a typo.
As I came across a lot of conversations online where people just thought the bug reporter made a mistake I've included a screenshot.

On the left the Masterpiece version (which you get through GOG) and on the right the original version.
