I recently purchased this game from DotEMU and found there is a problem with the Direct3D mode not working on modern graphic cards, and as a result I had to run the game in software mode, which is uglier and significantly slower .Has this issue been fixed in this release?
Apparently not. :(

Says not detected for me.
My version says that D3D mode is not found, but when I load up the game it says D3D at the top. I do not believe it is running in D3D mode. I find it interesting that the dotemu screenshots show the game running D3D. I tried a few things, but I cannot force it into D3D mode without breaking whatever wrapper is used to make this game run.

Yes, mine also says 3D3 version, but it think it runs in software mode.
Also the resolution is stuck at 640x480, even cell phones have higher these days. :P

Game works fine though.

Found some command line parameters, but they don't work. Nor sure what they all do, but I'll paste them here for others to try.

-ALPHA -d3d -nodither -Zbuffer -fullscreen

The -d3d option is supposed to force D3D, but it doesn't work.
Hopefully someone will figure out a way to run it in higher resolutions..then I will buy it.
I still have an OEM CD of this game and also ran into the Direct3D problems (I am on Windows 7 64-bit). I wrote a little guide trying to help people get the game to run on modern OS, but I couldn't really solve the Direct3D problem. The thing is that while Superbike courses work perfectly fine even on the highest detail setting in software rendering mode, I had to turn down details to 3/5 for Motocross courses, otherwise the game would start stuttering heavily when, and only when, the bike was taking a turn.

If this issue were fixed in the GOG version (i.e. someone can confirm no slowdowns in Motocross races on Win7 64-bit with 5/5 details) I would certainly buy it again here.

Original moto racer had as a top resolution 640x480. But was d3d compatible.

I just played a motocross single game with those settings. I didn't drop a single frame. I'm running Win7 64 Ultimate on a Socket 775 (not even an I7). I couldn't get this game to run with 3D support with glide wrappers or anything else. I'm not a programmer, so I give up. The game runs perfect and it looks good enough. I guess if I really cared a lot, then I could force some settings using Catalyst, but I'm not really concerned about it.

No dice. When I run the game in my Windows 7 x64 Notebook I get the "FULL D3D VERSION" subtitle up there, but when I go to the options menu it remains undetected. I've tried glide wrappers to no avail, and I'm really curious to see how the game looks with 3D acceleration, since when I had it in my old Pentium 133 I had the same graphics I'm having now, as I had no 3dfx.

Isn't there any kind of emulator or anything that could help us for this? I'm going to try it later in my Windows XP x32 PC, to see if I get anything, but I doubt it.

I still freaking love the game, and I'm gonna play the heck out of it, but I'm really, really curious.

That's good to know, thanks. From the details you mentioned I have practically the same system as you. Still, I think the framedrop problem would still be there on my system; someone else has reported it happening on the GOG version as well.

Concerning the Direct3D/Glide/Software issue, I am really not sure whether it does even make a difference in terms of visual quality. It's quite possible that with a detail level of 5/5 the game look as good as it will, and 3D accelerators were only required back in the day for performance reasons. It looks pretty neat anyway, and I don't remember it to have looked prettier back when I still could play it with Direct3D. Also, the game never had Glide/3Dfx support.

Try mixing and matching the demo file exe, if it works for you, with the games.
have you tried run in OpenGL? i didnt know because i didnt buy this title yet.
Anyways if you want on D3D there are some extra tools that does this for you
force works on D3D and other tweaks. i will search and post more info soon.
Hi all!
I have thsi game from dotemu since they released it... I am a big fan of it :)
D3D does not work in all cards. It is broken and needs fixing.
I only use nVidia cards and I tested it lots...
1. atom + ION = game works fine with 3D
2. E6750 + 8800GTX = game works fine with 3D
3. E6750 + 9800GT = D3D error
4. E8500 + 280GTX = D3D error

the game simply has a bug or something with newer cards.
also it is pretty much unplayable in software mode, because (at least on nv cards) when there is smoke the slowdown is terrible. Try the snow stage it is a nightmare!

I have been bitching about this on dotemu since day 1, they where deleting my messages and after 2-3 support requests they said they would fix it someday (yeah right) and offered a refund in case I wanted one...
The main concern here is that they promote the game as working when it has problems.
