I know http://www.gog.com/forum/monkey_island_series/build_a_classic_talkie_edition_for_dos_and_scummvm is still possible, but I'd like to see GOG put in the effort to bring the originals as easily-accessiable installers, also. :)
Same. FM Towns version preferably for me.

Does imuse work in the special edition if you're in classic mode?
In MI2 the classic mode enable speech, so that solution isn't needed.
The classic mode in the Special Edition is a good effort but I'd really love to have access to a version of MI2 with MT-32 support.

yes and no, apparently :-)

the music appears to be taken from the MT-32 (sounds very similar indeed to the original version on my hardware MT-32 - yes I was extravagant enough to actually get one ;-))

however, it is digital and it would appear that some poor sod was forced to record all (!) imuse transitions in the game so things would not be lost in the digital version (that at least is what I read somewhere ;-))

the remake in original mode feels exactly (!) like the original version and if you press F1 directly at the beginning while Guybrush and Elaine are still talking you even also get the lovely intro with the two sweet little monkeys disrupting things (!!!)

you even get the Soundblaster sound effects plus (digitised) Roland music - for the original version to have this you need an unofficial patch by a couple of fans and start the game with the parameters s (apparently the Soundblaster effects are stored in first position in the respective file(s)!

(e.g. at the beginning with Guybrush and the two pirates before the action starts also has Soundblaster / Adlib sounds with the aforementioned unofficial patch)

anyway, I hope these ramblings help :-)

Cheers

P.S.: The aforementioned fan patch also finally makes Monkey 2 (sensibly) playable in MT-32 mode with General Midi (be it hardware or software) as the sound effects now finally are entirely digital and not any dodgy instrument :-). I think I have been waiting for this ever since I got myself my Roland SCB-7 General Midi daughter board (could also be set to a kind of MT-32 mode but would have instruments playing instead of MT-32 sound effects) at the time (1994) !!! (Alright, these days I also have a genuine hardware MT-32 but I am nevertheless very happy that Monkey2 finally can also be properly used with General Midi stuff !!!)
