I just purchased the game and tried to install it on my Apple MacBook M1 Pro using Porting Kit. The installation worked, but when I try to launch the game it displays an error message reading

LucasLib Assertion Failed
D\:MilesUpgradeCode\libs\LucasLib\LBitmap.cpp line 65
false

I'm not sure if this is a problem with porting kit or the game itself. Any suggestions what I can do?

I have no experience with Macs, sorry, but the path implies that it's not a game file that is not working, but one in your kit. The game has no official support for Mac.

You could uses ScummVM to run it. Since they merged with ResidualVM, it also runs this game.

On ScummVM we still have Escape From Monkey Island as an unstable engine which means that there are known bugs for it and needs further work.

You could test it with a daily build of ScummVM for your system, but expect that there will be bugs.

Another option is to use Aaron Giles' DREAMM emulator for LucasArts' games, which is currently at its 2.0 version (as of last March), runs on Mac OS as well, and does support Escape From Monkey Island.

Thanks for the hints. Unfortunately, DREAMM says that it does not recognize the bin format that I downloaded from GOG.

But a daily build from ScummVM kinda works: I followed this tutorial for extracting the game data https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23fhFAV8Ruc, and then had to download the MonkeyUpdate.exe from here https://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php?title=Escape_from_Monkey_Island#Required_data_files (english in my case: https://downloads.scummvm.org/frs/extras/patches/MonkeyUpdate.exe)

After putting the MonkeyUpdate.exe in the same directory, the game at least starts. Let's see how buggy it is.

Did you try to use the GOG game installers directly in DREAMM? That of course won't work.
The procedure is very similar to the one in ScummVM.
You could try to use the directory which you prepared for ScummVM in DREAMM.
