First of all, how is GOG running this game. I thought that this game couldn't run on modern OS without something like Residual VM, and yet here we are. So how is GOG doing it, or am I just not remembering correctly and the game CAN be run on modern OS? (and if that's true then why is Residual VM being developed?)

Furthermore, I've seen some users suggest running this game with the dgVoodoo wrapper.

So can someone break it down for me - what is the "best" way to run this game? What are the differences between the three different methods? For one, I'd like to be able to change resolution, run in windowed mode, etc. and I can't seem to do that with the vanilla GOG version. But what about dgVoodoo vs Residual?

What are the differences between all of these?

Well - both RisidualVM and dgVoodoo2 will run the game MI4 smothly.

But for me there are a few major differences.

dgVoodo2 2_63.2
* You can choose DSR resolutions on NVIDIA.
* The 3D objects will be rendered in the choosen res - for example 4k (or above! DSR)
* The Background will remain unchanged

RisidualVM 2020.04.18 (git/win Version)
* You can't change the resolutions
* You can choose AA Mode for Example 16xAA with OpenGL
* Everything will be AA not even the 3D Objects

I have attached screenshots of RisidualVM/dgVoodo2 and the CPL of dgvoodoo2. I prefer the "sharp" looking dgVoodoo variant - but the AA Background in the RisidualVM version is also n1.

Can anyone speak to how the game runs 'out of the box' as it were? Does the GOG version work or does it run into the issues the OP mentioned? Also, today Scummvm and Residualvm have merged, and under the compatibility for EOMI it has you renaming certain files. Do you still have to do that with the GOG version, or can you just point Scummvm to it and call it a day?

Probably is making use of Scummvm. Anyway, for a Win 10, this games run out of the box without issues.

But how do I use dgVoodo2?
I set it like that:

But I still, after starting Escape of Monkey Island, I get small picture in the centre:

With EMILauncher1.7 on the other hand, the game will crash every time I try to load a save.

How do you change the language?

You need to download the game in the right language. 5 languages are available on GOG
