My characters are about lv10 and they all have the problem of not being able to hit anything melee. My paladin and barbarian both have accuracy of 15, which according to the game is "good". It seems that any enemy with AC 20+ is extremely hard to hit. My archer has 32 accuracy and yet can't hit anything (hit rate seems WORSE actually) with melee.

Feels like melee is useless. What am I supposed to do? Treat them as meat shields?

I don't think that's normal behavior, but there are a few things that could maybe cause it. First, make sure that your characters' weapons are not broken. If they're broken I think you can get them repaired at a blacksmith. Second, make sure that your characters haven't been cursed or have some other negative status ailment. Those types of things can be cured at a temple. You also just might consider better weapons... the material of the weapon can affect your chance to hit with it, so a crappy material can actually give a pretty bad penalty to your chance to hit. You can check the cluebook (included with GOG's extras) so see how the materials affect different weapons, but be careful of spoilers... only look at the equipment section. Alternatively there are websites that contain this equipment info; there's another post in these forums with a good link.

It might be possible that you just need to boost your accuracy. There are plenty of places to permanently increase stats in World of Xeen that you could look for.

I may be missing something obvious too; anyone else have suggestions?
There are bonus fountains all over the place. The most useful are +levels and healing fountains. There are others that provide other boosts. If melee is your thing, then you need at least a knight or barbarian to hit things. You may want to substitute the barbarian for a ninja since they're a decent melee class that can also open chests. Other characters are better off developing spells since they'll rarely hit anything in melee.
Use the day of protection spell (or heroism and holy bonus) to boost up attack power. This will increase the physical damage output a lot.
Be aware that armor class in WoX is handled differently than in other games. It absorbs damage so you need several attacks per round to bypass the AC and do damage.
Might is the melee stat, give the best weapons to your barbarian, no other class gains attack power as fast..
