Hello. I use LinuxMint 13 (maya) with the Cinnamon desktop and the most recent available wine. I have not been able to run the new installer in wine; I've run it in the GUI and in the Terminal; I've run it with and without root priveledges: tried both sudo and su (actually logging in as root) and each time, I am told that I do not have the necessary permissions to run it. I finally went to the file, opened it's properties in the GUI and told it to be executed as a program. No dice. I ran chmod 777 (giving it full permissions) and I still can't run it.

I am convinced that wine is not the problem. I removed it then reinstalled it, and it did not fix it. I'm also having the same problem with the updated Alpha Centauri installer, but I just downloaded and ran the Heroes III installer with no problem at all.

Is GOG blocking wine somehow, or is there something else I need to try?

Okay, sorry guys.

Found the solution here: http://www.gog.com/forum/sid_meier_s_alpha_centauri_/does_it_work_in_wine/page2 post twenty-nine.

I ran sh winetricks gdiplus, which took me to the download site for the missing package (actually, a windows executable) which I placed in the folder indicated by the script. I reran the script, and now my installers are working fine.

Cheers for posting your solution! I was going to put this on my laptop soon and was hoping Wine would handle things.

Well, it's not really my solution. But you're welcome :).

If there are no objections from the mods, I am going to mark your post as the solution, since I can't mark mine or the guy who posted the real solution.
