In regards to M&M7, is something ever going to happen to your characters if you
keep stealing????
I keep being successful but it says my rating is UNFRIENDLY.
Might and Magic VII has fines, and if you get too much outstanding fines, you will be arrested the next time you show up in court. I don't think it's based at all on reputation, and in fact you'll have a different reputation on different maps. But fines still carry over for all city halls.
Thanks for the reply!!!!
Well, if I never get caught I shouldn't get any fines than.
Only if I get caught correct????
But it still gives me bad reputation.
How do you fix your reputation so that it's good again?????
IIRC if caught stealing from a NPC somewhere outside of shops, all NPCs will behave as if you have killed someone.
As for the reputation, I think only completing quests raises it (and since there is only a finite number of quests....).
I never worried about reputation in VII, but I seem to remember you could still donate at temples and, it might not get you as high as respectable anymore, but at least a grey neutral would turn green. I don't recall it affecting shop prices enough that it would be worth it, so as long as my reputation was very good in Stone City I still ran around killing people and getting thrown in prison.

If I remember right, you didn't even need a good reputation for advancing in light magic. I wouldn't worry about it too much, especially considering you only get credit for it over the area of the specific map where you did the good or bad deeds.
Thanks for the replies!!!!!
Your Reputation goes back to neutral if you donate money to the healer when you
start the game.
The only bad thing about stolen items is the merchants won't buy them because
it says the item was stolen.
I tried fixing that with the MM7 editor but it kept changing it back to stolen
when I started the game again.
There's really no reason to do a lot of stealing. Like with the other 3DO games (and I've had similar experience in the first five as well, although I must admit never past level 10), early on, you'll end up with more experience than the loot necessary to take advantage of it. But later on, it'll even out, and you'll be flooded with cash whenever you need to train.
Conversely, I don't think I'm ever successful at Stealing. How does it work? Do I need to do any more than just click the objects?

Ctrl+click = stealing attempt.

Ah great! It's too bad I can't resell the items, though.

I've never used it anyways. For me it is one wasted skill slot for Thief in the beginning of the game which could be used better.

At low level you have a very low chance of succeeding at theft. You have to level up for it to be worthwhile (Although I guess you could save/restore until you successfully steal something, for all the fun that'll be)

Master Stealing with 8 points.

The only use for stealing skill is to steal an instrument from NPC at the start of MM7 and therefore save 500 gold. Can be done with skill 1. Don't bother with this skill, use skill points for something useful.

Apparently you have to be at least a grandmaster for your chances to be significant. Sorry but it seems you've wasted a bunch of skill points.
