Did anyone try to play (or better finished) any part of Might and Magic with only one hero? If yes, I'm wondering which class was it be?
I'm preparing to start play Might and Magic 7 with one-man team and need some ideas :)
Can you actually play MM7 with just one character? I though it is only possible in MM8. On the other hand... you can kill other party members and don't resurrect them. Anyway I think you will need a good fighter with the ability to cast clerical spells so that should be either ranger or monk.

As for MM8 I tried to play just with a troll but eventually got bored and filled up the party. Basically it is possible but that means a lot of running away, getting healed, coming back, killing a few monsters, running away and so on... Pretty repetitive and not that much fun...
It's a challenge. Challenge accepted! :)
I think I've read posts before on solo-ing both MM6 and MM7, not just MM8. As Ghorpm said, you basically get the other three characters killed right away and don't resurrect them.

I would think MM6 would be the toughest. At least in MM7 the Ranger can sort of do everything (not well, but you don't lack for abilities, e.g., healing, etc.).

Hmm. I agreed that Ranger can canst a lot of spells, but maybe one hero should be more specialised - at cleric spells or wizard spells. I don't remember how strong can Ranger's spells be, but i think it's only expert level. Is it enough?

On the other hand in MM6 all spells are available after learning a specific skill. Expertise just makes them work better but in many cases it is not that crucial. However, in MM7 and 8 you need expert/master/grandmaster training before you can pick some powerful spells. I think it may have some major influence on "one-man team playing"
I guess the key thing would be what do you want to be able to be. Though as some have said, the ranger though not really good at anything, as I recall, is ok at a wide variety of areas. Been a long time since I played any M & M 6-8 so I don't recall.

The 1 person team would be easier, I think, in 6. I don't recall if any of the 3 require certain spells to get places like Walk on Water or certain other spells. Never tried the 1 person team myself, but I have read of others doing that, or a 2 person team even.

I've done Might and Magic VIII with one character before: Troll. But I kept getting hit with things like paralyse and turn to stone, and I ended up saving/restoring a lot. Felt like I wasn'mt really playing. As for water walk, I just swam. Yeah, I took a lot of damage, so I had to gain some levels before doing a couple of quests. Thatś why I picked troll, they can GM regeneration.

As a Cleric, I believe you could cast protections spells that will stop insta-kills from the crystal dragons, but I never tried it. After playing a troll everything else seems so weak in the beginning.

If you were going to solo on MM6 I'd say you'd need to use a druid (my choice) or Paladin. They both have clerical spells, so could heal and the druid has elemental. I would take that over the higher HP and AC of the paladin cause I'd never play without Wizard Eye or Town Portal. Stage and boat travel is just a pain in the a$$
Ha! Beat MM6 with one hero... I can not imagine that. 6th part has so high difficulty level. In the opposite site we have MM8 (I think the easiest of all - but I'm not MM8 mentor) - congratulations with troll solo win, I want to do that with MM7 :)
But really, I don't want to start this game and realised, that I can't win after two weeks of pain :P
Ok, ok... it won't be pain, I love Might and Magic :)
Don't think I have the cajones to try to solo 6 just yet, but I'm starting a duo campaign (Knight/Druid) now. I'm going to combine this with an experiment of doing the obelisk puzzle early on since I have discovered that, contrary to every walkthrough/FAQ out there you don't have to solve the council quests and get the yacht before going to hermit's isle. You can walk there from the southern tip of Dragon Sand. I'll let y'all know how it goes
It's possible. Actually there was a website with savegames prepared to start game with various handicaps. Can't remember name of site though. Anyway, it's perfectly possible to do it yourself, just use some savegame editor. And it's doable. Easy mode = druid. Hard mode = knight.
Why would you need to download a save? Just create your party the way you want and kill off the others

On my duo project I have just gotten excalibur at level one. I'll start another thread for the updates if anybody's interested rather than hijack this one

OK. I'm taking off on a camping trip today, but will write about it when I get back on Sunday night or Monday morning
