Xulima's turn base has a M&M feel. But there is a lot of the main game that reminds me of Ultima 7.
Except for the turn-based or pause mode, I'd say Dragon's Dogma that recently released on Steam fits that. I also wanted a game that's similar to MM 6-8 and this is about as close as you get. You have a party of 4 (of which you create your own character and one of your companions), it's very much action-focused rather than story-driven. You've got decently open world with respawning enemies (though not as open as MM and I kinda hate the respawn - I think it's better in MM where you've got tons of monsters, but when you clear the area it stays clear for a year or so). It also has some mods on Nexusmods, but the game is new (on PC), so don't expect much.
just wanted to say that i feel the craving for at good mm game again too. mm6 brings back so many memories. i would really love a game like that again. with the best from the entire m6-9 (10) series. but definetly not turnbased as the only combat option.
"The Quest" has similar feeling and gives a lot of fun (but it's turn based only). There is a sale right now on Steam.

The Quest is a great game but I would say it's more like a hybrid between mm 4+5 and the older elder scroll games
Old topic, but I wonder there is not mentioned Wizards & Warriors. It is something between M&M series and Wizardry. It have turn based - realtime combat (you can switch anytime even during combat, like M&M), Character level up and magic system is Wizardry similar. And if you love mage character, they are prety strong later.

This game is hard to get, I hope once it will be released on GOG.

PS: beware, there two W&W games, one very old, I was talking about W&W dungeon from Heuristic Park https://www.oldpcgaming.net/wizards-and-warriors-review/

necroing old thread, there has been a new game called arcante out for a couple of months now that's basically a might and magic game with new graphics / gameplay. it can be a bit clunky at times but personally I found it to be worth the play.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1443360/Arcante/

probably against the forum rules to advertise a steam game on here but lets go with it till the mods show up

It does look M&M-ish. If I find time, I will give it a try.
Thanks

DivisionByZero.620: I'm not certain if this belongs in this subforum but I have been looking for newer games in the same style as Might and Magic 6-8 for a while and have been unable to find any. Does anyone know of anything similar? In particular, a single-player party-based game where you get to create your characters (or at least one of them), an open respawning sandbox world, and real-time combat with a turn-based option (just like MM6-8) or at least a "pause and queue instructions" option like a lot of BioWare games have (Knights of the Old Republic, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, for example),

Notes:
-DRM-free would be preferred, but Steam is OK if there's no DRM-free version.
-Built-in support for mods is preferred.
-Turn-based only/grid movement games like Might and Magic 10/Legend of Grimrock do not count.
Legendary Journeys

Bezhukov: Legendary Journeys
Looks similar and fun but a ways off.
But what is up with EA?
Thanks
Some second generation Might & Magic clones:

Released:

Arcante

In Development:

Turn-Based:

Descension
Legendary Journeys
The Quest: Heroes

Real-Time:

Aeolwyn's Legacy
Age of Silence
Elmarion: the Lost Temple
Legend of the Stone

Aeolwyn's is Tim Lang's game. Will have turn-based mode just like MM.

List of freeblobs for further reading.
Try MM9.

It's not as bad as people say.

It is bad, mind you, just not as bad as they say. I enjoyed it at least.

Hey,

sry for the offtopic, but did u get MM9 running under Windows 10?
Tried the Uplay and the gog version with different patches but I cant get into the game. All I see is a black little window.

I might know exactly what your problem is.

Disconnect your headset from your PC. Don't just deactivate it etc. Physically remove the cable.

I'm not trolling. This actually worked for me and a lot of other people.

I did not find this fix. Someone else on the forum did.
