After watching someone play MM6 on Twitch for a bit then looking up some Youtube videos, I decided to try them out for myself. So far I really like it. One thing I don't really like is the combat. All around the starting town (I'm talking about MM6) is hordes and hordes of enemies every 10 feet it feels like. Combat it nothing but spamming the mouse button and quick spell button while walking backwards then retreating to town to heal before all 4 party members die. My finger almost gets a cramp. I assumed that combat would be a little better paced, but it's like they designed the enemy count for a Doom clone. I keep coming back but the combat gets exhausting, and not in a good way. I also am trying out Wizards and Warriors and Wizardry 8 and the combat seems much better paced.

Are you on turn-based?
Use the keyboard key for attacks if you're just spamming arrows and such. It's "a" by default. Might save your mouse finger some wear and tear.

MM7 has a smaller enemy count, and turn based gives you a movement phase for backpedaling.

I just discoverd turn based mode after starting this post. That was a huge help with the combat.

Be aware that MM6 doesn't include any sort of movement for you during turn based combat, though enemies will have a chance to move a short distance. In MM7 and MM8, you periodically get a chance to move a few steps during turn based mode.
Some people go Castle Ironfist to get bows for every one.
But I think magic works just fine for the Non-bowed players (so to speak) just so you do NOT use flame arrow or magic arrow. sparks is good for close in, static is okay, etc. I don't want to go too far so you find your own methods. Good luck.
Once you get Fly, Meteor Shower and Star Burst you will learn to really appreciate those enemy hordes.

So everyone can use bows regardless of class? I have a fighter, archer, Cleric, and Wizard.

Absolutely! Bows rock for the first few levels until you start to get promotions.

If you can buy the skill in MM6, you can take it to master. But not every class can buy every skill. (example Druids can not buy Light or Dark Magic Skill).
In MM6, bows can be bought by all. If you find the right outlet to sell "bow." Ironfist has one where most people get it.

MM7 is different
