After killing Yanmir I tried to town portal to Frostgard but the game crashed, then I tried to walk there, after that I went to Thorgard so I could take the boat there but that didn't work. After some trying I tried loading my back-up saves from before the quest, but I still can't go to Frostgard. Just wondering if anyone has run into this issue before and knows how to fix it as it would be quite annoying to start the game again and possibly run into the same problem

Hi @ode123!
I got the same exact problem: I've been playing MM9 and things have been mostly ok up until now.

I managed to see the cutscene with the combined clans and the betrayal, then got to Yorwick but when I try to go to Frosgard, the game crashes consistently.

Any ideas how to deal with this?

Btw: there's another topic on this is also here: https://www.gog.com/forum/might_and_magic_series/mm9_area_crash but there's no solution there yet.

As far as I remember, it is "official" bug. It can be cured by unofficial patch or, I am not sure about this though, but area reset should fix it.

You can try manually resetting area by going in to save folder, back-uping your save (just in case) and deleting those savegame files which are connected with Frostgard. Alternatively, you can wait until enough in-game time passes so that area resets naturally.

Could you explain a bit more how saves are connected with places?

I thought all of my save files are already from other locations than Frosgard -- I'll double-check later on.
Just wanted to know what to do if that is the case.

MM 9 savegames consist of many files unlike previous games in the series.

So each saved game has different files for every location that you visited. I don't have MM9 installed at this moment, but as far as I remember, those files are named after areas so it will be easy to find.

But make sure to backup your saves first.

Thank you for this idea!
What I did was remove any save files with "frosgard" in their name from the "MINISAVES" directory and then everything worked :)
