Just got MM7 at the recommendation of my friend but it's almost unplayable because for some reason I move at different speeds depending on the direction I'm facing. I move very fast to the west and very slow to the east.
In addition sometimes when I attempt to move straight forward I move at an angle. It's very bizarre. Has any one else had this problem?
Yep, same here, I was wondering if this is normal or not... I couldn't do anything to get it fixed. :( Waiting for some info about it too...
Have you tried going to game's folder C:\Program Files\GoG.com\Might and Magic 7 and running the MM7-REL.exe?

I only ask because I'm running REL since the default executable won't allow me to play with my gamepad.
Yep, tried both executables but the effect is the same... :\
Btw, I found out that turning on hardware acceleration in MM7Setup seems to help remedy this issue - the movement is still a bit weird but a lot less weird than with no hw acceleration on.
Go into the game options and turn "Always Run" on, and it feels a little less weird.
I have the problem too, but it doesn't only affect me... it affects the npcs too!!!!
yeah i got this game jsut now too, and that was the first thing i noticed. any old mm players remember this being like this back in the day?. sadly not many seem to know...
I am having the same issue. It is bad enough in MM7 that I nearly gave up and requested a refund, but I'm sticking it out for now. It is the worst when traveling North or East. It must be somehow tied to strafing, since attempting to strafe in these directions produces strange movements. It is as if when I travel North, the game thinks I'm strafing north. There are times when I load the game where I can move freely as normal, but the problem appears within minutes. I have not pinpointed what starts the problem yet (initiating turn based combat, changing zones?)

The same problem seems to be in MM8, although to a lesser degree.

Another issue that may be related is that my arrows and projectile spells miss by a significant margin at medium to long distances. But not always.
to the question above... I own Might and Magic VII on CD-ROM and never had a problem like that... however the last time I played the game was on Windows XP and it was already hard to get it running there... I know there are inofficial patches but no clue if they are already included in the GOG version of the game
They aren't. Some patches are applied, I believe, but not the full Greyface patch.
I'm having the same issue. Tried messing with compatibility mode, tried installing the greyface patch. Not resolved.
And no, this isn't normal, I played MM6 on vista recently and had no issues. I tried installing MM7 from CD, but it wouldn't work with vista, so I bought it on GOG, but this issue is a bit annoying. Also I've noticed "always run" randomly turns itself off.
I played MM6-8 from CD on Windows 7 64-bit with no movement issues. I installed the official patches and then the fan patches. The only movement issue I had was extremely rapid turning which the "smooth movement" selection under options fixed. Don't know if that helps.
I had these issues with Greyface's patch until I found two options. Go into your game directory, and open MM7.ini or MM8.ini. Make sure there is no line that says alwaysrun=1; if so, change it to 0. If it says alwaysstrafe=1, change that to zero as well. I had similar problems until I made sure that these options were turned off in all of my games. After that, a little weirdness but nothing big.

It doesn't cause the same problems in might and magic six, so I wouldn't bother with that one. Probably because it isn't redundant...

I think the latest patch removed the alwaysrun option from the MM7 patch anyway, since it's redundant.

Same here (mm7 & mm8)... I've tried all patches and settings but nothing worked... :(
