Might and Magic 7: For Blood and Honor - Windows

I'm 94+ hours into my game, and fighting my way through the Dragon Caves in The Land of Giants. I've run into a game-breaking bug where two dragons in a hallway appear and attack me as soon as I walk in, but the moment they move, one or both of them disappear. They can attack, but I'm unable to hit back. In the instance that just one of them disappears, it's always the one in front. The hitbox still exists, so I can't walk past them either. If I attack, it says "_____ hits red dragon for X points" but I've attacked for long periods of time, and they don't die, so I assume they are also invulnerable.

Has anyone else found this bug? Any thoughts on what to do about it?

I don't recognize this bug.

In no particular order:
-Unless you have a Druid, there isn't anything you need in the caves, just (admittedly powerful) loot. If necessary, abandon the cave and do without the contents.
-Only one cave entrance has what you need for the Druid promotion.
-Keep in mind that dragons have over 1000 hp (some have 1300 or so). If you do 30 damage every hit, you're still looking at over 30 hits to kill just one, and if they are close enough together then you might be hitting both (splitting your damage) without realizing it. A lot of your hits probably aren't doing 30 damage. You could try to keep firing and see if they eventually go down. Also keep in mind that they'll recharge to full hp if you leave the cave (but reloading inside the cave is okay).
-Try entering the cave, then exiting and re-entering after they disappear to see if their position resets and works correctly.
-You could try turning invisible and slipping past them by hugging a wall. Judging by the minimap dot position, this may be too difficult; dragon models are pretty wonky in exactly how far they reach and what they touch. Alternatively, just try squeezing past without turning invisible first, again hugging a wall.
-Maybe get a running start and try using the jump spell to spring over them, in case they are basically clipped in the floor?

Would paralyze free them in place?

Thanks! I wasn't sure if I needed a quest item in here, and I have no Druids. I'll skip for now, but try walking past with invis. Appreciate it!

This is what I do every time, and it works.

You mean you've encountered this bug before too?
I don't think I've ever had a time where that dragon wasn't stuck in the wall invisible. I just wait til I'm powerful enough to kill them before looting that particular cave.
Getting "burried in the wall" also happens with an the Empress Medusa in the Red Dwarf Cave. But you can still kill her. However, I always restart if that happens because she also has a useful Medallion which is loft if you kill her in the wall.

Yes. It happens every game.
I don't recall having an issue in the Red Dwarf Mines. I've had a few medusa slip through cracks in the walls in the Tunnels to Eofol, but not in the Red Dwarf Mines.

Apparently I simply ignore the dragon caves in Land of the Giants too often, because I really don't remember these disappearing dragons. Of course, I don't bother with the dragon caves (unless I've got a Warlock) because by the time I ever get there, I'm already decked out in epic loot and I'm about ready to wrap things up and win. The dragons are just a big pile of damage sponges that I don't feel the need to wade through.

Which version of the game have you been using, is it the GOG version? Is it with or without Greyface's patch, and if using GF's patch, which version?

The Medusa(s), any of them, disappearing into the cave wall trick happens from time to time. Not often. But if you beat on the Red Dot in Wizard Eye you get the message of having killed it. Sometimes a Red Blotch shows on the cave wall. Most don't matter. But the protection from getting "Stoned" Medallion is useful.

GOG version of the game. With GF patch, but I don't think I've run the latest version yet, so I don't know if he fixed it. It's never been a serious problem, though, so I was never too concerned.

Exiting and re-entering the cave makes those dragons appear again, but as soon as I try to move towards them, they disappear. The Wizard Eye red dots are visible, and the jets that they fire at my party are visible too, and they are NOT stuck inside any walls. I don't remember having landed any hit on the invisible dragons, and the right-click monster overview does not work, and I did not manage to get around them by any method. The only strategy that has worked for me was to enter in turn-based mode, then immediately paralyze them. Note that the paralyzing attempt will not always succeed!
I've encountered this a few times, if you spam the wall with carnage bows they'll die eventually
