The first time I loaded the unmodded Might and Magic 7 game it had black bars on the left and right side centering it like a reverse wide screen movie, and hte task bar appeared blocking some of the text on the character selection page. I minimized the window, then switched back to that window and everything is pink, and squashed further and off center. The button click points seem unmoved despite the screen shifting so I have to blinndly wave the mouse around in the black void to see if anything lights up in the pink image. I hit escape and it went to the main menu where I took a screenshot.

I tried to reload the game to get a screenshot of the initial mis-display, and it seemed to work correctly, although there seems to be no way to skip the opening video. There doesn't seem to be anything I can do o the character seletion page so I hit enter. The game starts, seems to run alright. I see the tutorial lady, open all the books, click the fire for food. I talk to two peasants and dismiss them without issue, but the third freezes the game, the music keeps going fine, he character faces look around occasionaly, the mouse moves but doesn't register any clicks. I minimize the page, then switch back to it hoping the refresh will fix itand of course it goes pink again. I took another screen shot.

I seems I have several problems here, but I'm not sure what they are, since I can't tell whih glitches, if any, are related.
Is this a dossbox game? Do any GoG games require compatibility mode? I read in one of the reviews that there was a standard set of steps needed to fix most of the SNK fighting games on GoG. Is ther a standard set of steps to fix the Might and Magic games? Does this game require a compatibility patch to run properly apart from any patches that add features or content?

As to the weird screen issues, running the latest Greyface patch fixed all that for me. It's now an adjustable window.

As to the peasant, if you hit ESC it should get you out of that conversation & back into the game. It took me a long time to figure that one out.

Let me know if it all works.

I installed the Greyface 2.4 patch. Well that definitely changed the menu layout in the game.
It seems to have fixed some problems while creating others. Loaded the game a few times, and it seems to mostly work. Now clicking show desktop does nothing, so If I forget to load the key mapper before starting the game I'll have to find it in the start menu. Also the game hides the task bar if any other window is in front. There seems to be no way to minimize the game anymore miking viewing the desktop after launch impossible now. At least it doesn't seem to be going pink anymore. I do not see any windowed mode like you had suggested, so if you could direct me to where that setting is hidden I'd appreciate it.

Now the music doesn't repeat, although I made sure mm7.ini had the following settings as recommended by the following thread, although most of these posts were for older (1.x) versions of the patch and might not still be valid on 2.4 especially since some of the recommendations are defaults now.

PlayMP3=1
MusicLoopsCount=0

There was no "NoCD=1" option to choose or modify, and the mp3 music files already were in a "Music" folder without a "1.mp3" file. So I couldn't do one of the recommended fixes as it seems to be the default now. I suppose I can try converting all of them to wav, but with the PlayMP3 line it seems like that should be unnecessary, or unhelpful.

I don't know if the patch changed the NPCs, or if they are random, as the "Hire me because I'm a fool" good luck girl seems to have vanished, replaced with a good luck chimney sweep, but I don't think he can dance the "Skippy time".

Hi my friend.

How I "solved".

I installed the pack as they said, however whenever I go to run the game I change the desktop (if windows it would be the windows button + ctrl + arrows. However, to create them it is windows + tab.

But it is something remedied to have access to the desktop without bugging the game and without it being in the background of the screen.

Sorry if my English is bad, using translator.

MusicLoopsCount=0 means the music should loop continuously? Counter intuitive to what I thought it would be.
Make sure the 2-X.mp3 files are in a "Music" subfolder.
The game was a Windows 98 game, and most games of that time NEVER liked minimizing EVER. GreyFace patch fixes that somewhat.
BorderlessFullscreen=1 in mm7.ini should allow some desktop viewing / minimizing, you can try =0 and see if that works. But again, most older games do NOT like not being fullscreen. They also do not often like multiple monitors or ridiculously high resolutions. One has to learn to live with some limitations of these older games and enjoy that it works at all.

There should be NO 1.mp3. On old games, track 1 on the CDRom was always the DATA, or the game itself.

The games were set up so that if you put the game disk into a cd player it would play the music tracks just like a music CD.
